I, for one, wish the Democrats could find someone better than Hillary to run. It’s hard to imagine that they can’t, but name recognition is a powerful weapon, especially in this era of reality stars and people who famous for no other reason than that are famous. Still, she’s smart, hard working and is mature enough that most of us who tend to vote Democratic don’t have to hold our noses too tightly to vote for her.

But… the bigger problem is not Hillary. It’s the failure of the GOP to put up a serious, substantive contender who doesn’t scare the bejeesus out of more than half the country. Even Chris Christie, whom I consider one of the more serious ones, is talking about ground troops to fight the so-called Islamic State. Do we never learn? And when the Republicans get power, they seem to always do something like putting abortion at the front of their action plan. They keep proving themselves incapable of governing at the national level. I simply won’t risk another pointless war by voting for a GOP hawk. In fact, I wish Hillary were less hawkish herself!

So, yeah, I almost certainly will vote for Hillary. I think she’ll be a perfectly adequate president, even if I think there must many other Democratic politicians who would be better. If the GOP could come up with someone like Alan Simpson, they might have a chance for my vote. Until they do, it’s Hill, baby, Hill.

John, I appreciate your posts. you’re a rational, standup guy. This is exactly the problem. I pride myself on being an independent, but the Republican party refuses to run a non-loon. At least the Democrats are more… normal.

I really liked Huntsman a lot. And the rabid faithful didn’t give him a second thought. I’m not especially inspired by Hillary, but I don’t see anyone coming from the right that I am going to like better.
