Stuart Fails to Save the Universe - Big Bang Theory spinoff. Spoilers after first post

Porky?

Porky Pig, in the loony bin. Same scene that Weird Al appeared in.

Thanks. Incidentally, the cover art for the comic book that Stuart found at the comic book store is much like this promotional comic book that DC Comics gave away at San Diego Comic-Con.

I am not a huge BBT fan but I have enjoyed this one so far. There is enough imagination and whimsy to keep your interest and the original cast cameos have all been quite fun. But around the half-way mark they will have to figure out some kind of meta-arc beyond a random universe per episode.

It is quite amusing that the BBT has in a few short years spawned something like this as well as George and Mandy which barely has any connection to the original show. I suppose it’s appropriate that a show called BBT spawns a rich and varied TV universe.

BBT was so bloated with memorable characters, there just wasn’t room for some of the best ones to get their due. This is a nice way to do that.

I mean, there already were unanswered questions in this episode.

I couldn’t remember if Weird Al ever appeared in the BBT so I asked Claude AI. The answer was interesting.

Yes — Weird Al appeared as himself in an alternate-universe scene in “Stuart Fails to Save the Universe,” the series finale of The Big Bang Theory. He was one of several cameos in that multiverse sequence, alongside people like Penn and Teller, Christine Baranski, and various cast members playing alternate versions of their characters.

He’d also shown up earlier in the show in a more indirect way — Howard’s a fan of his music, and there’s a bit in season 7 where Amy teases Howard for having Weird Al on his MP3 player.

I’ve really liked the series so far. It does more with the multiverse/alternate timelines scenario than the MCU has dreamed of.

I had a problem with this episode, though. The reveal is that the first part was all a dream of Stuart’s due to his being in the matrix. Yet if the matrix is giving Stuart his dream life of marriage, kids, and success as an artist, why is he put into misery in an old-fashioned asylum? Is that a glitch or do the clues like the changing welcome mats indicate outside interference? Seems to be a lousy way to do it following 30 months of forced painful indoctrination.

And if that is Stuart’s dream life, shouldn’t all the others be dreaming their own dream lives? Yet Kripke remembers his life in Stuart’s dream.

NEVER TRUST AI FOR ACCURATE INFORMATION!

On this very Board, one of the consistent complaints about TBBT was that it got away from pure geek humor and focused more on relationships. Now we have SFTSTU - 100% geek humor - and after only four episodes we have someone saying the show needs something else.

Especially when one can get more accurate answers from a non-AI source. (Like in this case, just look up Al Yankovic’s IMDB listing and scan for any mention of The Big Bang Theory.)

I checked IMDB and wikipedia, he did not show up.

Brian

I often ask AI just to see how wrong it will be.

No. Bert points out that they are literally in a scene from the movie The Matrix, meaning that that scenario is fake, too. Then Stuart tears at the “reality” of that and they move to yet another setting. They weren’t in the Matrix and what was happening wasn’t explained in this episode, but surely will in future episodes.

I don’t think it’s that kind of show.

I’m going to guess Howard will be the original series guest actor for next week, because surely Sheldon and Leonard will be held for the finale.

Though there are ten episodes, so maybe some will double up and appear a second time in a new context.

SFTSTU has been renewed for a second season.

Link.

Also, this is only the first of what they hope will be multiple seasons, so perhaps they’re saving appearances by Jim Parsons and Johnny Galecki for later.

I wonder about the second Stuart who appeared briefly in the comic book store and whether the primary Stuart was able to bring the comic book with him through to the new universe. One recapper suggested that the show might introduce an antagonist who is working against Stuart succeeding in restoring the world.

I do. On top of that mystery, the/a second Stuart briefly flickered in and out at the end of the episode. A larger arc is happening than just self-contained episodes.

Does the appearance of Jon Cryer suggest that actors from other Chuck Lorre shows might appear?

I heard that but I thought the idea was that they went to a world in which the Matrix was real. If they get transported to a fake “reality” doesn’t that undercut the premise of the show? All the worlds could just be dream worlds, then, even the first. I can see how that might be a meta tie-in to Stuart’s loony bin stay, but that might be a twist too far. I agree that much stuff will be explained later. It could be like the first season of The Good Place.
