A lot of people who commit suicide feel that their loved ones will be better off without them. (Seriously, unless you’ve suffered from major depression, the whole “selfish” bullshit is just that: bullshit. People don’t commit suicide just because they want to cause other people pain. They do it because they’re in such horrible pain that they can’t think of any other way out of it.)
I’d say Climax, Georgia gives it a run for the money (and you don’t even need to misread it).
Though my personal favorite is Welfare, Texas, located next to Comfort, Texas.

Absolutely, but can you hang yourself at home and not at school where students can find you? If not, perhaps there is something else motivating you? Like the local kid who went where he knew the girl he was mad at would be the first to find him, and shot himself in the head. I guess maybe he wasn’t depressed – just pissed off.

Well, in the case of my sister’s suicide, where she left a note on the door of the garage warning whoever came along after her of possible toxic gas behind said door, I’d say she was thinking of others. Judging from her suicide note, not all of her thoughts of others were quite so… considerate. She very clearly intended to cause some people pain while safeguarding others.
So… I’d say yes, there CAN be rational elements to an otherwise irrational act, and SOMETIMES the suicide is thinking of others, and SOMETIMES he or she is not. Sometimes, “thinking of others” does not mean happy/pleasant/harmless thoughts, either.
Let’s just say it varies from person to person.
I think many people who commit suicide want to make a statement as well. So doing it as publicly as possible makes an unforgettable impact in a way that would not be possible with a discreet death.
Speaking as someone who supported giving the McDonald’s coffee lady her million dollars (or whatever the amount was) - why would the school pay off on this? How would they have any liability?

Seriously, the inability to share your pain and grief - and like here - black comedy - leads to such a sense of isolation and a growing sense of futility. I suspect she had few friends or family in which she could confide her troubles.
