Finally started clearing out the weeds completely from the back section of the yard (about 24’ x 13’) so we can install a couple of raised beds, and do something low-maintenance with the rest. I have one of the raised beds about 80% built and we’ll put it in this weekend. The weeds are only about 1/2 gone, but it’s a slow process.
Roddy
We made a decision on which waterproofing company we’re having do our basement, and I called them to get that ball rolling today.
Yeah, outside of Amarillo TX on some guy’s land. Trippy.
I finally put a dryer vent cover on the outside of my house so the birdies will stop trying to nest in the dryer duct. I did it just today, and I bought this house in '04.
Bought a matching bedroom set. No longer am I sporting the mismatched furniture from when I first moved away from home!
I’ve been good lately:
- Finally did the colonoscopy - only 8.75 years late
- Mammogram & pap smear - 6 years overdue
- Cleaned out the freezer
- Cleaned out the BIG drawer of crap in the bathroom
Next up:
- Finish the upholstered window seat cushion I’ve been working on for 18 freaking months (so close . . .)
- Make the slipcover for the loveseat
Several times, I was very nearly ready to finally post a response to some long-lost SDMB thread, the sort of which I run across here from time to time . . .
But then, knowing the razzing that zombie posters get here, I refrained.
A hundred years from now, somebody will certainly re-discover and re-animate THIS thread with some similar idea (and it might even be zombie-me).
We finally replaced that crappy couch. You know it’s time to get a new couch when your old one is being held together by duck tape. So we found a very nice new (used) one on Craigslist, and now I’ve got my old one advertised for FREE if someone wants an old duck-taped couch (so far no one does).
I’ve taught myself to crochet too, but I do a lot more knitting than I do crocheting although I enjoy the heck out of both of them. I think a pair of socks was the third or fourth project I ever made..they were so ugly I couldn’t let anybody see them however. I made them out of this black/orange/purple/green worsted weight yarn and I keep them around to wear in the house during the winter because my feet are always getting cold.
The socks for my mom and the Romulan Ale socks are both made from Kroy FX sock yarn, which is actually kind of heavy for sock yarn but it’s superwash wool so it’s got a great feel to it. The mismatched stripey socks are Red Heart Heart and Sole yarn which also feels supernice because the yarn is treated with aloe.
Last night I got around to cleaning out and reorganizing the pantry. The indoor component of our AC unit had a blocked tubey thing which caused water to spew all over the laundry room. So I didn’t have any choice but to clean it up and when I learned that my FIL might be coming over if Husbandman couldn’t fix the problem himself, I figured I might as well reorganize the shelves too so it didn’t look so messy.
I’ve lived in this house for three years, and only just got around to buying the furniture, a desk, cabinet, and bookshelves, that I’ve needed since moving in. Suddenly I have floorspace.
I finally got around to leveling a death knight in WoW. They’re a lot more fun than I would have expected.
This week, I’m finally going to get around to getting my emissions tested and re-registering my car for the year (99 clams, ugh). Friday probably.
Very MP, but I finally got around to untangling the spaghetti that was the various cords on my desk between computer and tv peripherals.
I briefly considered arranging my books by LOC classification and then decided against it.
Yesterday I was putting away some laundry and all of a sudden I got in the mood to go throuhg all of my clothes and throw out the stuff I didn’t wear anymore. Felt real good.
Isn’t it strange how one can’t seem to plan these things? That one has to wait for the mood to strike?
Oh, and one more thing: to shame myself into doing it, I hereby declare that I will do, this very weekend, the last of that paintjob. That paintjob for which I have laid out the paint and brushes on the basement table and they have been in the way since months. Becaus I refuse to declare defeat and put the paint stuff away. If I do, I know for sure that we will have a bi-colored doorway for the next ten years.
It doesn’t help that my husband complains of paint smell 'so I have to pick a time when he and our son won’t be around for a couple hours.
I’m even less able to plan these things now that I’m pregnant and my energy level is even more unpredictable than usual (but generally lower than it was before I was pregnant).
Stir a few teaspoons of vanilla extract into the paint to reduce the smell.
I finally located a new doctor. ( old one retired, and I now have different insurance due to buyout.)
Thus I finally had the ear issue that has been plaguing me for several months looked at. I am about 50 lbs. lighter, and considerably leaner (I have added muscle and lost fat) since the last time I went to the doctor. It was nice not getting “the talk” about my weight. ETA: That is probably stealth boasting, but what the heck.
Now that I am retired, I went through all my clothes. I ended up with one large trash bag of discards and two more of donations. Now I have space in my dresser drawers and closet to put all of the clothes I actually wear.
I also started going through our approximately ten gazillion books, and setting aside the ones I don’t want. Unfortunately, my discards have to be reviewed by my husband and daughter before anything can actually be given away, so now we have bags of books all over waiting for that process to be complete.
Garage is clean. Well, pretty darn clean. The problem with buying a house from a relative is that they leave all kinds of crap behind, claiming they will get it out. I’ve been here 7 years now? Plus, the ex still has stuff out there. My garbage and recycling bins are full, could easily refill them a few times more.
Today I also patched the stairs where damn chipmunks have been hanging out.
Tomorrow will be a fun day:
Tree trimming
Clean the gutters
Fix/paint the foundation bricks. Paint is chipped in places, have to scrape/ re-paint. (Durp moment: Gee, can we use spraypaint on cinderblock? Hmm, what do people graffiti on? Duh)
Paint the woodwork (I had wanted to strip them all, but that’s too far ahead and I have to have my house in tiptop shape come Tuesday)
Work on cleaning/organizing the basement
Hang curtain rods
Fix the hand rail
Sweep/mop/vaccuum basement
Take however many loads to the charity shop.
Luckily, I have three friends, my mom, and TheKid to help with all of this.
So, I did not get the gutters cleaned, nor have I taken stuff to the charity shop.
Everything else? Done.
I’ve shredded 26 years worth of documents for my parents
Cleared rubbish from the shed and disposed of most by composting, and some to hazardous waste drop-off
Planted some grass where I had a pain-in-my-ass mud-puddle in the backyard after my handyman brought me dirt
Taken several boxes of stuff to Goodwill.
I also have a gyno exam later today
I’ll take my change and cash it in today
I might drop stuff off at storage Tuesday
