So, I work in an office with lots of people with kids. And I like to do my part for the kids, so whenever I buy something from General Mills with the pretty little “Box Top For Education” on it, I bring the Box Tops in. I eat a lot of General Mills stuff, too, because their brands have lots of coupons. I figure last year alone, I raised about $50.00 in Box Tops for local schools from stuff I would have eaten anyway. Yay me!
Now, way back in the swirling mists of time when I was in school, all we had was the Campbell’s soup “Labels For Education” program. They still have it, too, and lots of brands are included in that - Campbell’s soup, of course, being at the top of the list. The schools get money when you save the labels - which is what I want to complain about.
Lately, my local grocery stores have had the Campbell’s Chunky and Select soups in the 2-cup plastic containers for sale. I am usually broke and I like to pack my lunch, so I figure I am killing two birds with one stone - (1) cheap lunch and (2) community service. Except, I can’t get the damn labels off these containers! It’s bad enough that they use enough glue on the cans to hold a roof on a house, but these plastic tub labels are just Og-awful. Styrofoamy, shaped weird, and when you try to cut the label off, usually the whole thing gets wrecked.
Campbell’s, could you make this a little easier, please? If you WANT it to be hard so people stop redeeming the labels, then just stop the program. Otherwise, quit being such a bitch about getting the labels off! Please. I want to help the kids but I swear to Og, I’m about to start stabbing people in the eye with a fork.
See? I said it was lame. And, FYI, I included the links as a public service, in case anyone else is interested. But don’t say you weren’t warned.
