With the coming of spring, a new generation of flies has sprung forth (from the compost heap, I assume), and once again I’m engaged in genocidal activities, because I hate the buzzing buggers.
This year, though… man, these flies need a Special Ed instructor! I don’t need a flyswatter. I can walk up and catch them by hand. They’re slow to react and spend most of their time walking on my windows rather than buzzing around doing whatever it is flies usually do.
It’s hard to quantify, but in essence, these flies are dumber than last years batch, by a long shot. They’re dumber than any flies I’ve ever seen, as a matter of fact.
Which brings me to the question: do I have anything to be concerned about here? I remember back in high school reading about the detrimental effects of radiation on fruit flies - could this be something similar? My house has been checked for radon in the past year, and none was found, so I’m not thinking radiation is the actual problem. Or am I reading too much into it?
