Yes indeed - so we have traffic updates every 10 minutes on our primary AM radio station. Followed by the weather, which changes every 2 hours from 80 degrees to 40 degrees…
I truly believe (even after having been driven around in N.Y. by a taxicab driver) that Dallas drivers are the worst freaking lunatics on the U.S. roads. Yes, I’m a native Dallasite - my firefighter husband scrapes up body parts off our roads - can you idiots slow the f–k down? If you arrive at your North Dallas big-ass house five minutes later than usual, the world will continue to revolve around it’s axis. Oh, and if you see a fire truck/ambulance? Slow down.
Zanshin, it may be even better than you think. Your insurance company will give you the money they have to, but then they will most likely sue the idiot to get their money back. Depending on your insurance company, you may not be liable for the deductible, since they know who to get for the money.
Thanks, Blonde and Lok. Everything’s fine – right now it’s just the hassle of logistics (getting a rental car, waiting for the appraiser to check out my car, etc.). I’m disappointed at what happened but I’m definitely grateful it wasn’t worse.
I certainly do hope that the insurance company goes after this yahoo for the deductible. My deductible’s not that high, but any costs I can avoid paying make me even happier. Plus, I’d just like to see this kid get the screws put to him; anyone who drives without a license and insurance and on top of it, drives as recklessly as he did, deserves all he gets and then some.
Good question – let’s figure out when we can get together. (Check your email.) Bummer that it’s been a bad week for you too. Then again, with all the bad karma I’ve had lately, it may be best to stay outside of a 10-foot radius of me. I might be contagious.
Zanshin, like everyone else, I’m glad to hear you and your sister are ok! But I have something important to add, too… you do not have to accept your car being totalled just because the insurance company tries to get away with totalling it rather than repairing it. I know this because I had a very similar situation as you – 2 payments away from finishing paying off my car and I got accordioned by some stupid woman speeding down the freeway not paying attention to the fact that traffic ahead of her was stopped. The damage estimate was within a couple hundred bucks (lower, actually) of what they were trying to give me to total it. Since I didn’t want to face another 5 years of car payments and it was actually cheaper to fix it than total it, I stood my ground and insisted it be repaired. And they did it. Yay! So if your insurance company says they want to total it but your body shop says it can be repaired, I’d recommend fighting it. Good luck!
