Stupid Gun news of the day (Part 1)

Your “summary” was a gross misrepresentation of the situation under discussion. The decedent was shot because of entering the shooter’s residence.

Rudolf Hoess wasn’t convicted and executed because he got a promotion. He was convicted and executed because as the commandant of Auschwitz he was responsible for numerous crimes against humanity. Now, without the promotion, he wouldn’t have been the commandant. But saying he was hanged because he got a promotion is sufficiently misrepresenting the situation to make it a lie.

You lied. In my opinion to get a rise out of people, which would make it trolling to boot.

You know that I’m just here to give you something to do other than day drinking. (or while day drinking, who am I to judge?)

And that makes it a positive story… how?

Tell you what, next time you are with a group of friends, you say, “Hey, in this time of Covid-19, riots burning down our cities, and the murder hornets on the way, I’ve got a positive story to share with you.”

Then share the story that I linked to. See if they agree that it cheers them up.

I stand by my statement that it was a noise complaint that escalated into a homicide, and that I find nothing positive about it.

Thanks for looking out!

Mixed bag.

Positive story, but stupid News.

Some rioters steal some guns from a police cruiser, and fortunately, they were retrieved without being used.
OTOH, the news is stupid, as it is on a Fox site, and the articles is entitled, “Seattle security guard helps disarm George Floyd rioters with AR-15s stolen from smashed police cruiser.”

Now, we are not just talking about the misplaced modifier here, that implies that the security guard smashed up a police cruiser and stole AR-15s in order to disarm the rioters.

My objection is the phrase “George Floyd rioters.” is it just me, or is that intentionally inflammatory?

They must be running out of Positive stories where people actually got shot. Now they are posting actual Positive stories where no one is killed and running to this thread to whine about people making fun of them.

To be honest, I just really like misplaced modifiers.

As Groucho Marx says, “How he got in my pajamas, I don’t know!”

Oh sure, make fun. Next you’ll be telling me to hide my dangling participle.

Honestly, if the story ended with the hooligan punching the homeowner in the face a few times, and then walking out with his DVD player, I would still view that as a more positive outcome than his being dead on the floor in a pool of his own blood, even if the homeowner was Mr Rogers.

I think this difference in views is to a large extent the difference between pro and anti gun people. Pro gun people view the death of a “bad” guy as a positive in and of itself. I personally don’t.

Sometimes it comes down to spelling.

California man arrested after brandishing an assault rifle at Black Lives Matter protesters.

Arrested? Not shot? I guess they thought his assault rifle was a wallet or something.

He musta been white.

Not a gun story, but stupid news about another type of lethal weapon. In Utah, Brandon E. McCormick has said he showed up at Saturday’s downtown protest, armed with a bow and arrow, to protect police from demonstrators. He was arrested and charged with three felonies.

School calls cops on 11-year-old after seeing his BB gun during virtual lesson

I assume there’s no actual legal issues in that jurisdiction with an 11-year-old owning a BB gun and keeping it at home. The article doesn’t indicate whether the “someone” thought the BB gun was another type of gun (less appropriate and/or legal for an 11-year-old) or whether they just automatically freaked out over the sight of something vaguely gunlike.

Nice catch!

Now, I really don’t blame the kid in this, what 11 year old wouldn’t want to show off his favorite toys to his friends?

But, the mother was a Navy veteran with 4 years of service, and really should have spent some time making sure that her son’s learning environment was appropriate. It is a classroom, not a gun show.

Fortunately, no one was hurt, a quick and friendly visit with local law enforcement informed her as to their mistake, and reasonable people could just go on with their lives from there.

What turns this from a wholesome story about people learning about appropriate gun display and use into a story of a stupid gun owner is her over the top reaction to such a simple and common sense request from those charged with the education of her child.

More entitled and stubborn than stupid, but it still certainly qualifies. Thank you for sharing!

Colorado man holds two roofers at gunpoint because he thought they were Antifa:

I feel badly for the two salesmen who are probably traumatized for life. On the bright side (if there is one) , that bone-head in army fatigues seems mentally deficient and never should have been allowed anywhere near a swiss army knife, let alone a gun. The entire neighborhood is safer now that the police have disarmed him and charged him with a felony.

This is the kind of “responsible” gun owner that scares the living shit out of me. I’ll bet he has been waiting with his guns and camos for just such an opportunity to jump into heroic action. This is why people in other countries think we are just batshit crazy.

Here is a story that is a little different than most of the ones posted here. The story is from the Washington Post, but is behind a paywall so you might not be able to see it.

In Woodstock, Va., a man was at a building where he owns a rental apartment and several other people who did not live there were bringing a refrigerator and putting in his dumpster. He asked them to leave, and they became verbally abusive. They left and came back with more people, attacked him physically, and threatened to kill him. He pulled out his legal concealed handgun to hold off the attackers and called 911.

Now here comes the stupid part. The sheriff’s department shows up. They see a black man brandishing a gun at several white people, and arrested the property owner–the black man. The white attackers waved as the police drove him away.

Once someone figured out what happened, the sheriff’s department apologized, charges were dropped, and now the white attackers are in jail without bond.
