Stupid Gun news of the day (Part 2)

Looking at press reports it seems not that rare for someone to get a citation rather than be arrested. Though I’m sure some of those cases do involve a “some animals are more equal than others” scenario.

I’ve always wondered how that works.

The “I forgot it was in there” defense seems airtight. The fact that you don’t know where your guns are, or even that you are currently carrying one, doesn’t seem to in any way faze gun rights advocates.

However, if the gun had gotten by security, and had fallen out on the plane as he was putting his luggage away, would there be an increased penalty to the gun owner, or is it simply waived away as TSA’s fault?

The fact that there is no real penalty for trying to sneak a gun on a plane is fairly perplexing.

He’s a repeat offender on that, too, isn’t he? Or was it Congress he used his wheelchair to smuggle guns in with?

I wonder if the gun was hidden in his wheelchair, and TSA checked it because they heard the other story…

His multiple DUIs and driving w/o a license offenses not withstanding…

Don’t representatives and senators have some kind of immunity during travel to/from DC? Of course that leads into the question of where he was traveling to.

… If only it was Hell …

The Constitution; Article I, Section 6, Clause 1:
The Senators and Representatives shall receive a Compensation for their Services, to be ascertained by Law, and paid out of the Treasury of the United States. They shall in all Cases, except Treason, Felony and Breach of the Peace, be privileged from Arrest during their Attendance at the Session of their respective Houses, and in going to and returning from the same; and for any Speech or Debate in either House, they shall not be questioned in any other Place.

Not sure what the case law is but I would imagine there is some reasonable interpretation of this that would put boundaries around what travel qualifies here. Also I am surprised that attempting to bring a loaded gun onto an airplane is not a felony.

Our Canadian friends are relieved to know that his destination would not have been their fair country, as felons are not allowed in, and DUI is a felony in Canada. I have heard that it may be possible to buy one’s way in, but that is probably discretionary.

Buy his way in…?

I could not find anything about DUIs. He was driving with a revoked license and had a couple of very serious speeding tickets, but nothing about a DUI.

Looks like you’re right. I found speeding, driving w/o a license, insider trading, bringing a loaded gun through airport security, and assault on a tree… but no DUI.

( I don’t know why I thought that he was drunk… )

And I far as I know wearing women’s lingerie is not a felony. But still.

Assaullt on a tree?

yes, um – what?

Tree? That’s rotted wood.

That’s what she said.

Are you sure alcohol wasn’t involved?

How drunk would a tree have to be to “consert” to that?

… and they said that there were no more Truly Evil corrupted characters that could be added to LOTR…
