Stupid Gun news of the day (Part 2)

Mother of nine shot to death because she flew a gay pride flag outside her store.

It happened on the Midway. I wonder if he won a Kewpie doll…?

Let me help with the copy here,

A 19-year-old man is facing charges after police said he negligently shot his girlfriend at the Kentucky State Fair, news outlets reported.

The couple was in the midway at the Louisville fairgrounds at about 6:15 p.m. on Aug. 19 when the man though utter incompetence and negligence fired the gun, Kentucky State Police told WLKY.

As the headline stated, he was trying to catch a falling gun.

Utterly stupid.

At least the cops caught up to the murderer and shot him dead in a gun battle. Not much consolation for all who knew and loved a clearly good and loved woman, but at least his malignancy has been excised from the body public.

Which he, apparently, thought was holstered well in the elastic band of his undies.

“Well, I had to try to catch it, Jolene! It might hit a rock & knicked the finish.”

“Billy, I think I’m shot…”

Woman sneaks gun into White Sox game in the folds of her immensity. Naturally, during the game, the gun goes off (“accidentally”), grazing the smuggler and lead-poisoning another woman in the leg.

Woman Shoots 4-Year-Old Girl in the Chest While Trying to Demonstrate Gun Safety, Say Police

A woman in Rockwood, Tenn., is under arrest for the shooting and killing of a 4-year-old girl on Sunday while demonstrating gun safety, according to authorities.

Reading the rest of the article, it seems that the lede isn’t exactly correct. That’s why, in my non-lawyer humble opinion, the woman is charged with first degree murder.

Yeh, it sounds like the shooter thought dropping the magazine would empty the gun, decided to punish the child for misbehaving by pretending to shoot her, and forgot or didn’t realize there’d still be a round in the 9 mm handgun.

Reading between the lines, the mother, heck, pretty much everyone involved in that poor child’s short life would appear to be craptacular people.

AIUI, you can load a magazine into a gun without chambering a round and smart pistol owners do that, requiring the “slide to be racked” in order to chamber a round. Smart gun owners, however, seem to be few and far betwixt.

Very briefly speaking to the factual question, you are… mostly correct.

If you are transporting a gun, it should be unloaded, and double checked to make sure you don’t have a round in the chamber, and even then, you never trust it. You also never point a gun, loaded, unloaded, no matter what at anything you aren’t ready to destroy. So they failed in all of the above.

Almost all persons who consider a firearm as a home defense option such as myself, -may- have a firearm loaded, but WITHOUT a round racked, because that is a very, Very trivial moment of time vs the risk of a careless (not I do NOT say accidental) discharge. More commonly, you’d leave it with a loaded magazine, and load the mag, then rack a round, then go investigate the break in (or whatever).

A person who carries concealed is the only category that is likely to consider the option of carrying a loaded firearm with a round racked. Theoretically, if you draw under those circumstances, the extra moment to rack the slide could be an issue. Plus, carry guns often have low magazine size, so it’s one more round you can carry. During the time I did carry I went back and forth about it. But I figured that the fraction of a second to rack the round if it came to that was worth the extra safety the 99.99% of the time I expected -nothing- to happen.

End of lecture / sermon.

The woman was a fool by every possible measure, not just as gun owner but also as a person.

And/or she deliberately killed the child.

We should celebrate her efforts to improve the gene pool.
She is the epitomy of this boards motto.

Exactly. I don’t know why we’d rule that out given what she’s charged with.

… did an “E” light up on the scoreboard?

Ugh! Gross and disgusting.

Yes, shooting your own kid is.

Many modern semi-auto pistols come with a feature that gun nuts hate calling a magazine disconnect safety a “nanny-state feature”. If this particular pistol came with that nanny-state feature, this child might not have been slaughtered by her nanny.

Even if the child was saved by this simple mechanical safety, this would still be the case of one huge dumb mother fucker, but they never would’ve made the news.

Not really the point but I’m not sure it was her kid. More to the point you made it sound like we needed to congratulate the shooter for getting the child out of the gene pool. Is that what you meant? If so that is gross and disgusting.

I went back and reread the article. The woman who shot this child was not the mother.

Oh, and shooting any child or anyone is gross and disgusting.
