Stupid Gun news of the day (Part 2)

Speaking as one of the few gun owners who actually participate in the thread, yes, I can, but only for an edge case - I’m leaving out buying one to “defend yourself” from a national insurrection by the left (ha) or the right (disturbingly likely, but no).

Feral Hogs/Swine.

They’re big, tough, and come in large-ish groups. They are a danger to farms and crops, and to a much lesser but non-zero extent, humans and their domesticated animals. I tried to pick the most neutral website for discussing the threat, but they are a real problem that non-lethal techniques have so far been largely unsuccessful at dealing with.

IF I was a farmer in their range (huge) and defending my life, property and income against a swarm of the damn things, then yes, I’d want a heavier caliber semi auto rifle with a bump stock and any other means to increase fire and lethality against them.

But that’s a pretty tiny segment of the American gun owning public, so as I said, edge case.

[ I know, too rational for the pit, but it’s an actual real-world issue, far more than most mentioned by my fellow gun owners ]

ETA - for the record, I do own a semi-auto rifle in 5.56, although not an AR-styled one, and I would never consider a bump stock needed for my reasonably boring, urban life.

Feral pigs-the excuse for any weapon you can imagine.

I have heard retired farmers and ranchers in their range say that feral pigs are grounds that full auto, belt fed LMG to HMGs should be legal, but they’re mostly talking about how damaging they are, and how hard to kill, rather than actually advocating for large scale military weapons to be sold to civilians. [ LMG Light Machine Gun, HMG Heavy Machine Gun ]

I think. Or I hope.

I’m fairly sure that tickly feeling is happening a little lower down.

Seriously, the tickly feeling lower down is your wallet emptying. Ammo is one of the other things that, while down from panic buying pre-COVID are still darn high, although at least lower than their earlier all-time highs.

Visualizing Farmer Jeb with a MaDeuce on top of his tractor (TBF I’d trust him more than I would your average “Glock Switch” user but hey…)

This ruling I sort of had it at a tossup leaning reversal going up. Ideology aside you do see applications of administrative regulatory authority that are cases of “this really should be legislated but I know it can’t get passed that way… but people are saying DO SOMETHING!!! so let’s try this…” and such regulations are always vulnerable as long as you are still stuck unable to pass proper legislation.

Yeah really. Serious shooters have little use for just wasting your hard earned cash burning through ammo and putting excess wear and tear on the firearm.

…and it’s on the resume of at least 3 members of SCOTUS…

Yeah, and they’re pouring across the southern border! Probably smuggling fentanyl, too. Thanks, Biden.

Did I catch the local news correctly? Clarence Thomas said paraphrasing “You can pull the trigger pretty fast with your finger and that’s perfectly legal.”

Look, we can’t very well stop Ted Cruz every time he heads to Cancun, can we…?

Mexico

♫ Way down here, its from the mobs that you hide.
Feel a fool; for all Silly Rump Jive
Lose your load, (but don’t leave your money behind)
Political Bind.

♫ Oh, Mexico
It sounds so simple, he’s just got to go
The sun’s so hot, he forgot to go home
Guess I’ll have to go home now…” ♫

♫ Fat Texicano got the sleepy eye
But his body’s still shaking like a live wire
Hits on señoritas with eyes on fire
(Such A Liar)

♫ Oh, Mexico
It sounds so simple, he’s just got to go
The sun’s so hot, he forgot to go home
“Guess I’ll have to go home now…” ♫

Snowflake’s hungry and the money’s all gone
Texas folks don’t want to talk on the phone
For lack of heat, your long letter gets charred,
(Times are hard) ♫

♫ Oh, Mexico
It sounds so simple, he’s just got to go
The sun’s so hot, he forgot to go home
“Guess I’ll have to go home now…” ♫

And stealin’ our jobs!!!

Did he then give a little wink and say “And just so anyone cares, I really like vacations!”

I was wrong. He didn’t mention fingers.

The 6-3 majority opinion written by Justice Clarence Thomas found the Justice Department was wrong to declare that bump stocks transformed semiautomatic rifles into illegal machine guns because, he wrote, each trigger depression in rapid succession still only releases one shot.

Would that someone shows up at his house with one and demonstrates the difference.

Sadly, it would probably his dumpy and deluded wife.

( Note to self: I really must stop watching Bridgerton a full three days before posting here )

McDonalds drive through employee has dustup with customers, pulls gun and shoots. No one was injured.

It looks like it may have begun with the customers registering a complaint using the flying beverage protocol (the story is muddled), to which the employee responded proportionately. I kind of wonder whether the parties involved we strangers to each other.

So, eats, shoots, and goes back to work?

Until the cops arrive, anyway.

What better way to celebrate Independence Day than gunfire? (The link goes to Yahoo.)

One person was killed and a park ranger was injured in a shooting Thursday morning in Yellowstone National Park in Canyon Village, Wyoming, park officials said.

The episode began overnight and ended Thursday morning, Yellowstone National Park said in a news release. Rangers responded to a report of a person with a firearm who was making threats at Canyon Village, which is south of Tower Falls in the central part of the park.

Rangers contacted the person and exchanged gunfire. The person died. No identity was released.

A Yellowstone law enforcement park ranger was injured. The ranger, whose name has not been released, was stable at a hospital.

“Good morning and congratulations, Ranger Smith. You have successfully completed your training and are ready for your first assignment.”
“Thank you sir. I look forward to being out in the open outdoors, and serving our park visitors.”
“Here’s your car.”
“Car?”
“Yes, you will patrol the park.”
“OK, that makes sense. It’s a big park.”
“Here’s your flashlight.”
“Flashlight?”
“Yes, you will have some night shifts.”
“True, I’ll have to inspect campsites, maybe go on the trails.”
“Here’s your gun.”
“Gun?”
“Yes, in case you have to shoot and kill somebody.”
“You’re shitting me, right? In Yellowstone National Park?”

A buddy works full time for the park. There is bad behavior/sketchy shit/deaths all the time. First shooting I’ve heard of, though.
