The vB Code link at the top of the page contains a pretty good explanation. If I were going to explain it, I’d just be paraphrasing that. Note on the design of these pages - the link to vB code and smilie documentation needs to be more obvious. I don’t know if you care to tweeze the PHP templates to do that, but it’s a worthwile thought.

Funny, I’ve just been bitten again by vBulletin’s URL parsing for automated URL detection - specifically, it picked up a trailing colon as part of a URL. For an example of better URL parsing, look at most mailers that have the feature. You can’t just parse off a sequence drawn from a fixed set of characters. There are anomolous cases that you can’t handle, but vBulletin just doesn’t do this very well.

Hmmm. Simulpost. As picmr notes, the link is at the bottom of the page when you are just reading. It is at the top of the page when you are composing a post. It’s that one that I’m suggesting could be more obvious.
