Stupid questions you hear on television

This from a “documentary” airing on F/X about train wrecks:

Rhetorical questions are not asked to find an answer.

Three-fourths of all the interview questions asked on television can be reduced down to this: “How do you feel?”

Any of the questions on Who Wants to be a Millionaire?

An even bigger percentage of questions in interviews of athletes aren’t even questions.

  • Interviewer standing next to athlete, holding microphone.
“This was a big game, slugger. Back in the eighth inning you got a hold of one and sent it out for three runs.”
  • Interviewer points microphone at athlete.

Is that a question or a statement? Am I missing something? Luckily for the interviewer, that’s usually all an athletes needs to tell the world how great he is, in the humblest of terms of course.

Check out Hockey on cable. It’s a wee bit better. they occasionally ask a decent question. often enough for me to actually not change the channel at intermission until they let the player go to the locker room.
