I voted for George W. Bush. I did so for many varied and valid reasons not worth mentioning in this relatively unrelated thread. What bothers me is when I talk to someone else who voted for Dubya and they give some stupid reason for voting for him. I always think, “Oh great, so this is what Gore people think we Dubya voters are like.”
Let’s list stupid things we’ve heard for people who voted for our candidates. OUR candidates, not the opponent.
Okay, reasons I’ve heard for voting for George W. Bush:
His dad was President and I liked him.
His initials are G.W.B. and it would be fun to have a President we can refer to by initials again. We haven’t really had one since LBJ.
He seems nice, not mean like that Al Gore.
My family always votes Republican.
He’s the lesser of two evils.
Anyway, that’s all that come to my mind now. Have fun.
I mentioned this in another thread, not sure which one.
A friend voted for Bush, because she heard that Gore is in favor of expanding the scope of the Family Medical Leave Act.
To her, that’s not a stupid reason, because she’s responsible for administering FMLA where we work. The law is being abused, as most good laws are, and she’s just thinking of her workload.
My mom usually votes Democrat, unless she doesn’t like the prospective First Lady.
Well, I voted Nader, but I haven’t spoken to enough other people to yet discover if they voted for Nader as well, and, if so, if their reason is stupid.
However, my roommate voted for Gore because:
Apparantly, Gore admitted on MTV that he smoked pot as a kid
The way he kissed his wife on TV
The fact that he has attractive daughters, and therefore having him as president would get them more TV air time.
Mahaloth,
I wouldn’t say “lesser of two evils” is necessarily a bad reason. If you believe either the D or R is going to win, and don’t like either, I can see looking for the least objectionable.
My grandmother refused to vote in this election even though my mom offered many times to drive her to her polling place. She said it was because all of the candidates were ugly.
We found out that in previous elections she had voted for the candidate who she thought was the most attractive.
