Would you change your vote if you could?

To anyone who has participated in a recent election, in any country: Knowing then what you know now, would you still have voted the way you did? Why or why not?

I’ll start: I voted for Gore and I would again. The conduct of the 2 candidates since has shown me that Gore is what I thought he was, and Bush is proving he’s not who he wanted us to think he was.

i voted for Gore and I would again in a heartbeat.

I’m curious, though, Elvis: what is it that Gore is that you already thought him to be, that prompted you to vote for him?

BTW: No surprises here about Bush. I saw through him as easily as if he’d been made of Saran wrap.

Since I would know that Gore would win Pennsylvania anyway, I’d have voted for Nader instead.

What’s the point? The candidates are acting like politicians because they are well… politicians.
Is anyone really surprised by this?

I wouldn’t change my vote at all, given another chance. I still would prefer to see Nader in office over the two major party candidates.

Fair enough. My impression of Gore has been, and is, that he has been preparing to be President for pretty much his whole life, he’s tried to advance policies and programs that he’s believed in, he’s been ahead of the curve in a lot of areas that show a concern for the world and the nation ahead of politics (global warming is the primary example), but has the breadth to understand that the world and nation are bigger places than any one person, even him. His post-election conduct, while not backing off one inch from a belief he really won the election, shows to me that he could accept it if things turn out otherwise. I have seen nothing of Bush’s behavior that would show anything similar - in fact, I’ve seen and heard nothing from him that wasn’t either banal or scripted for him by the people who would really be in charge in a Bush White House.

Yes, Gore badly wants to win and genuinely thinks the country would be better off with him than with anyone else, particularly Bush, as President. That makes him different how, exactly? Along the way, yes, he has become too insulated and has become a little too arrogant, frankly - in adult life he’s been too used to being the most ambitious and usually the smartest person he knows, but that’s not necessarily all bad. With a little more of the common touch that Clinton developed naturally, growing up poor while Gore grew up rich, I don’t think Bush would have been much of an obstacle for him. I don’t think he’s quite as personally ambitious as Clinton, but neither is Bush - both entered politics because of their fathers; Gore from a sense of duty but Bush from lack of personal direction.

Flame away.

Hey, I’m not about to flame you! I agree with every single word you said.

I voted Gore, and would vote for him again in a heartbeat.

I voted for Bush in this election and would vote for him again. But I would change my vote in the primaries if I could. I voted for Bush but would change my vote to McCain if I had an option. I went into the primaries not knowing very much about either candidate and voted for Bush because of name recognition. But I still prefer Bush over Gore in the Nov. 7 election.

Yeah, I would change my vote.

I would move my vote to Florida.

Tris.

No way.

I voted for Nader, but wished instantly that I had voted for Gore. Right now I just wish I’d moved to Florida in time to help.

I kinda feel for you, and I’m kinda pissed at you. Damn glad you don’t live in Florida, cuz then I’d have to stay pissed at you.

Next time…
