Mosquitos?? Pfff… Our blood furnishes the eggs of female sharks, so we should let the sharks take an arm, leg or even a head knowing that we are helping their population.

Not even “weirdo”, depending on the cultural context. The only time I ever felt constrained by etiquette to let mosquitoes annoy me rather than slapping them (although I was more in the gently-waving-them-away camp than the offering-myself-for-phlebotomy one) was once when I went with some very devout Jains to a Jain religious festival, in which context their attitude was perfectly normal.
And yeah, even the French animal-rights activist in the linked article seems to have a pretty mild take on the issue, saying that people should kill mosquitoes in areas where they carry dangerous diseases but let them bite (or else use natural mosquito repellents) in parts of the world where they are not a significant health risk, on general noninterference-with-wildlife principles.
I’m not saying I agree with him policy-wise, but it’s difficult to make a case that his position is in any way “SJW”, or even that it’s “stupid bullshit”.
