Stupid Social Justice Warrior Bullshit O' the Day.

They of course don’t have the power to. If they did? Yeah, I think purges would be happening.

I’m definitely canceling office hours.

I think there has been a trend in recent times by the left of removing themselves from contrary opinions. They SEEK liberal bubbles and vilify other liberals who aren’t quite liberal enough and kick them out of the bubble so they can believe that everyone thinks like they do.

They are following in the footsteps of conservatives but are they really a good example to follow?

Well you can teach religion neutrally by starting with early religions that didn’t really have well defined concepts of deities to polytheism to monotheism to Abrahamic faiths. The problem is that Christians don’t like seeing Jesus being put in the same category as Thor. Same with Jews and Muslims.

Potatoes come from Peru originally. All you potato eating cultural misappropriating sonsabitches send those potatoes to me for ummm errrrr uhhhh disposal RIGHT NOW! :smiley:

That is just stupid.

Honestly, that is the point at which the University should say;

“You know, this year is almost over and we’ve decided not to have you back next year.”

Hate, sure. But as for fear, the argument I’ve read is that women in general experience so many sexist and aggressive interactions from male strangers out of the blue that it’s reasonable to expect they’d be at the very least nervous around them (especially when they know they’ll be at least partially blamed if they do get sexually assaulted).

Just to ask, how many of your buddy’s beliefs, if enshrined into law, would have a direct negative impact on you? Do you believe that he advocates said enshrinement in any way? If so, do you think that it would color your discussions with him if you would be so impacted? If not, do you think that that live and let live attitude is typical amongst conservatives?

Here in Baja Canada, after a long and brutal struggle, a law permitting liquor stores to remain open on Sunday just passed, as Minnesota hurtles headlong into drunken depravity. Hugh Betcha.

Another complaint about the creeping incursions of Socail Justice[tm], this time about comic books.

Hey, I know perfectly (see, for example, the citation in my previous post).

lol, I enjoyed that. being from MN:p

I’ve read that argument, too. Without going into it too deeply, I think that for people with certain trauma histories this reaction is, in the very least, understandable. I do not, however, believe that the ‘‘universal mistrust of all men everywhere’’ is a healthy direction toward healing. I basically got slammed for having the opinion that there are healthy and unhealthy ways to deal with trauma. I dealt with mine very differently than the essayist in question, and I saw her coping mechanisms as counterproductive and generally harmful to gender equality. I’ll admit I didn’t broach it in the most tactful way. I have a lot of great men in my life and I have a hair-trigger response to that sort of negative generalization. I called the article ‘‘weak minded, irrational bullshit.’’ Negative generalizations about men or women is just one of those things that I react to emotionally.

He’s anti-theocracy, so I don’t feel very threatened by his beliefs. He’s one of the most reasonable conservatives I’ve ever met, along with ivylass. (Though the two of them have pretty differing beliefs themselves.) I’m not sure what is typical amongst conservatives. I was raised in a rural conservative household among conservative working class folks but I don’t think many of them voted or thought very deeply about politics. I wasn’t disowned for being liberal, although some of my friends were certainly disowned for being gay. I did flee to the nearest liberal mecca as soon as I graduated. I think my inability to stereotype conservatives is at least partly a result of my more or less working class conservative upbringing. (Although I was the religious one in my family, go figure.)

I will say that I went through an active phase of seeking out conservative FB friends and I found it very difficult to identify people who didn’t make my blood pressure shoot through the roof. One guy I loved, but his ignorant friends made me all kinds of angry. There are certain kinds of people, regardless of political affiliation, who value open and honest discussion and a willingness to look critically at their own beliefs. They are probably in the minority, but these are the people I prefer to spend time with. I have a buddy who campaigned extensively for Bernie Sanders, and then Hillary Clinton. He has a weekly tennis game with a Trump supporter. He knows that there’s no way in hell we are ever going to move people on these issues until we try to understand where they are coming from. These are my people.

I actually had some bumper stickers made that say;

MINNESOTA
America’s Canada

if we have another MN dopefest, I’ll bring them.

It’s not the idea. Who gives a shit if Iron Man is a 15 year old girl.

It’s the stupid dialogue and cringey plots. It’s as if no one learned from DC’s mistake of Vibe back in the 80’s or how Jim Shooter wrote Rhodes in Iron Mans armor in Secret Wars.

Or a super-team of Black Panther, Storm*, Misty Knight (?) and…that Aboriginie teleporter from Australia??? Yeah THERE’S a guy with cultural connections to the other three. (Yes i know he’s met Storm) Why not just throw in David Ortiz, Cleopatra and Black Manta. (I know Black Manta is DC)

*Who debuted stellar dialogue such as “I see the mayonaisse shops haven’t moved into Harlem yet.”

Bret Weinstein is on Joe Rogan’s podcast, talking about the persecution he’s faced at the hands of the crybullies at Evergreen. It’s disturbing testimony. Student activists have not only targeted him, but other students who attend his lectures. They’ve barricaded faculty in a room while these beleaguered teachers hammer out a statement which accedes to their demands (the university President literally had to ask permission to go to the toilet). They held a meeting with faculty where food and chairs (chairs, for fuck sake) were reserved for non-whites.

Honestly, it’d be hilarious if it weren’t actually happening.

Granted it was in college but I took a Philosophy of Religion class that was an excellent academic examination of the philosophical foundations of each major religion. Highly educational.

Got what, a couple of weeks of school left at most?

Wait for them to go home, disinvite them from next year.

But of course they won’t do this.

Jason Aaron’s The Mighty Thor is mostly excellent, but there is a clunky moment when Thor runs into an old nemesis (I think it’s Absorbing Man and Titania??) and Titania is all, ‘‘Well, I’ll knock it off this time because it’s so awesome that you’re a woman!!!’’ And then it turns into this whole meta-commentary against the haters. And I’m just like, no. Just be awesome. That’s all you have to do is be awesome. I just feel it undermines the whole concept.
