Stupid Social Justice Warrior Bullshit O' the Day.

When you’re so woke you find yourself siding with murderous dictators…

Without getting into which biases are worse, it should be pointed out that claiming Asians (or Jews for that matter) are all super-intelligent often proves to be a backhanded and damaging “compliment”.

Not only does this bogus claim of innate superior intelligence stir up resentment in others, it can be used to deny educational and other opportunities to people in these groups. Since they’re oh-so-smart inherently, obviously they didn’t have to work hard to attain their grades, so it’s OK to rig college admission standards to exclude them.

Yes, it’s absolutely a damaging stereotype. No question there.

A lot of things some call racism are more accurately called hasty generalizations–and are a weakness in critical thinking skills, not a weakness in moral character.

The latest in cultural appropriation? Quoting song lyrics.

Sigh.

“You must not know 'bout me” is one of our hundreds of household catchphrases, and all this time I didn’t realize I was being racist.

Honestly what pisses me off the most about this stuff is it gives the false impression that people of color don’t have significant gripes about systemic oppression. Rates of homelessness, poverty, diabetes, infant mortality, unjust incarceration and failing schools are out of control, but let’s all talk about Beyonce for a minute.

I wonder how those people feel knowing that Irreplaceable was co-written by a Norse songwriting team.
Also, what are their feelings on the All The Single Ladies routine being lifted from a video by Bob Fosse’s wife from the 60’s?
warning, that might play loudly, turn your volume down/off.

If a white person is no longer allowed to quote 6 words from a black person (with a citation), is it okay for a black person to make millions of dollars with a routine lifted from a white person?
Of course, when All The Single Ladies came out this wasn’t a thing, but still it’s very short sighted (and very common in politics) to accuse someone of something without thinking far enough ahead to realize you or yours can be accused of the exact same thing.

That claim of cultural appropriation came from Canada. I’d worry a little bit if it came from an American, but not really very much. I don’t see every single black person saying it.

Yes, I assume we all realize these people make up a minority of people fighting for social change.

Ironic that I came here to place a link to:

Basically Sofia Coppola’s “The Beguiled” is complicit in perpetuating white supremacy. And The Bey is mentioned in the article. I think the notion that 'The black characters being written out is not a good thing" has legs for sure, but the article is just dripping with bile. It is The Root after all.

And really, we should at this point give ‘the left eating the left’ it’s own thread cause there’s a lot out there.

I’m outraged at your appropriation of my earlier post in this thread

I don’t. There’s no reason to bring it up if it’s just crazy uncle Steve. The only reason to need a Pit thread is if what they are doing actually matters, and we need to blow off steam about it. The only reason to have a Pit thread about SJWs is if you believe the rhetoric that is used about them–that SJWs are taking over. It’s the same thing as “the PC-police” being invoked.

I for one was very happy that this thread didn’t go that route, and people were making it nearly impossible for the thread to be used as intended. It made me proud of this board that we’d moved on from it. But it sure seems to be starting up again.

The concept of the SJW is inextricably tied up in the idea that being passionate about social justice is wrong. People may say they realize that doesn’t include everyone, but they sure use it that way.

As for your other post, I already agreed that calling people racist isn’t helpful. But that’s a completely different question than whether what they are doing is racist. The context here is that someone told a story where they were called racist. False accusations of racism are rare: they are mostly either accurate or misunderstandings.

There is a myth by the same people who use SJW that everyone is constantly calling people racist as a way to attack them. And, while it does happen, it’s rare. I know I’ve never been called racist in my life by someone just attacking me. There’s always been some reason.

I do not accept this narrative that there is this class of SJWs out there constantly using the concepts of social justice to harass people. There are some people who are overzealous, but few who are evil.

That’s why I reject this SJW label in its entirety. This is a college in Canada who heard about cultural appropriation but misunderstood it. It’s absolutely no big deal, and the most we need to do is make sure we actually have classes and curricula that actually educate about what this stuff actually means.

All I can say is we’ve had vastly, vastly different experiences. In my personal experiences, Social Justice Warriors - people going out of their way to find things to be offended about and harrass people online with views they don’t like, sometimes with real-world consequences - are very much a real and tangible phenomenon.

Real and tangible, yes. Significant in terms of numbers or influence, no. Representative of the left as a whole, not remotely.

Perhaps not in the US but I believe they are in Australia.

If you think that Root article is bad, for God’s sake don’t read the comments. Every single one is pure cancer.

[sub] If, on the other hand, you enjoy the spectacle of idiot racists working themselves up over fuck all, check it out.[/sub]

So, is “thread shitting” allowed in the pit?

Apparently so. In this case, however, it’s perfectly illustrating the “I don’t like that opinion and don’t want you to talk about it and will work to make sure that happens” aspect of social justice activism that the thread is highlighting.

The only reason to have a Pit thread is to call pompous assholes like you retards.

You are one of the Biggest most reTardiest SJWs on this board you vile armadillo feltching, birch tree penetrating, ant fluffer.

And yet he at least attempts to constructively contribute to threads, unlike some.
