Stupid Social Justice Warrior Bullshit O' the Day.

I’m glad the examples in this thread only become more significant with each page. You people have really nailed an important social problem that requires something be done.

I don’t think this thread was intended to be significant. Just entertaining.

So, really, its all just a poor attempt at humor and irony. Boy, that sounds great! That would totally make my day. Week.

Right. It is like Dumb Crook News.

I haven’t read the article, but I’m familiar with how those Roman statues were painted (often what we would call ‘gaudy’).
Google ‘roman statues originally painted’ and go to images. This one is greek, but man, the colors! :stuck_out_tongue:

Well, I’m entertained. Conservatives don’t corner the market on idiocy.

Yes, conservatives do not have a corner on idiocy. So if we were talking about a “Stupid liberal ideas” thread, I can see it…

But this isn’t that. This is an SJW thread. This is a thread about taking social justice ideas (some on the fringe, some not), converting them to something ridiculous so that you can mock them.

It’s notable that nearly all the examples have been refuted. And those that haven’t, people have at the very least explained why they could seem reasonable, even if they ultimately are things I disagree with.

And lets not kid ourselves. The reason for mocking SJW stuff is to try and weaken social justice. That’s why the term was created, and that is how it is used today. And I don’t care if you have a problem with some of the social justice movement. Social justice is still the right thing. At most, there are just some people who use less effective tactics.

Mockery has a purpose. It’s purpose is to invalidate. And that’s the point of all these sorts of SJW things. To invalidate the social justice movement.

It is in fact quite a good thing to point out that, as we keep on refuting the SJW arguments, the stuff is getting less and less important. We’re more and more showing how this SJW thing isn’t real. It really is just a pejorative.

At least these people are coming from a good place, even if I ultimately disagree with them. Yes, even including those people who were upset about you wanting to talk with a Trump supporter. I fully understand that. Sure, I also understand that you had good motives, and can even agree that it could be beneficial, assuming you go in with the right mindset (let’s find out what the concerns are these people had that led them to vote for the obvious horrible guy over Clinton). But I can also see the other direction, where you go in and think (let’s find out how we will have to compromise our ethics in order to get these people on board). And the timing was just not right, after we were all grieving our country, with a whole lot of us at the anger stage.

Not SJWs. Just people doing understandable people things.

A lot of the SJW stuff points at college kids. People who have just become adults, think they know everything and are likely to jump at ways to have knowledge and power.

As I’ve said elsewhere, they’re children. They’ll grow up on contact with the real world once they leave college and have to get a job and interact with actual adults.

The basic response to people screaming about college kids and their uninformed world views is a  and a jerking motion.

I dunno why you keep lecturing me about this, BigT. I’ve made my position clear. I am a social justice warrior in every meaningful sense of the word. I have a Master’s degree in macro Social Work. I’ve raised hundreds of thousands of dollars this year to fight domestic violence and sexual assault, and I belong to an organization that has increased inclusiveness of minorities as a major tenet in our goddamn strategic plan. In August I have a mandatory staff training on LGBT-specific issues in domestic and sexual violence. I forward stuff like this to my coworkers, and they like it. I’m proud of what I do, and I have no intention of backing down on those issues, or compromising what I think is right.

When people with an obvious bias toward a certain ideology have the ability to say, ‘‘Yeah, I know that guy’s supposedly on my side, but he’s spouting bullshit,’’ it not only makes you a more fair and rounded individual in general, it gives you credibility in the eyes of people who want to pigeonhole you based on your politics. When you can cop to the weaknesses of your own political orientation, it engenders trust in people who may not agree with you on other things. Also, I just like myself better knowing that I can be intellectually honest even when it’s inconvenient.

As for me wanting to sit down and talk to Trump supporters… You don’t have to compromise your ethics to try to understand someone else’s POV. To use an extreme example, I don’t condone terrorism but I’d sure like to understand it, so that I can prevent it. Confronting ideas we don’t like requires us to think critically, which makes us sharper, which makes us more effective tools for social progress. That some people were too distressed to deal with Trump supporters just indicates those of us who can manage it really have the obligation to go for it. I have a good friend (Oh. It’s LOUNE, actually) who campaigned tirelessly (as a paid employee) for Bernie Sanders, and then for Hillary. He plays tennis every week with a Trump supporter. Why? Because he knows what it takes to create change, and it isn’t putting people on the offensive. It’s being a human being first and a political mouthpiece second.

I think a lot of the stuff in this thread is fucking crazy. I don’t find the title offensive or threatening or representing me in any way. So sue me.

By “refuted”, you mean " been exposed to a differing opinions, and since it is my opinion, it is true."

I click on this thread every once in awhile, and I keep seeing the same names. This isn’t entertainment, it’s a cult.

And I keep seeing the same people trying to deflect, hand-wave, shame and obfuscate.

You calling someone’s statements on this board cult-like is very much the pot calling the kettle a kitchenware of color.

Nuh-uh

My first time noticing your name here was in a thread where you were defending shouting down and shutting out the speech of people that you disagree with. You want to see cult-like behavior? Look in a mirror.

Doing that now, and all I see are the edges of my blood-red cowl and the long, curved sacrificial blade clutched in my hand. No idea what you’re talking about.

First Amendment Warriors are clearly more ridiculous than Social Justice Warriors.

Dude, just what are you adding to this thread? :dubious:

Nothing at all. Jesus Christ, that isn’t obvious to you?

Yes, it is. I was wondering if it was obvious to you.

So piss off.
