Stupid, uncaring moron

Weel, I’m really pissed off at my ss teacher. I was late for the last 2 classes, only about 20 seconds each,(Entirely my fault;I was looking at a boy I like)they teacher doesn’t mark me as present, and the school calls my mother, tells her I’ve been absent for the last 2 classes, and lo and behold! she calls my godparents(Mother went to edmonton and abandoned me at my godparents house) and tells them I can’t go on the pc, watch tv, or read.(She does taht all the time; When I’m in trouble, my reading priviliges are taken from me.) and so I come home, and I try to log on to the computer, but its locked. So I read a book. Jay(godfather) comes home, tells me"Apparently you didn’t show up for your last 2 socials classes. Your mother says you can’t go on the puter, watch tv, or read. The hammers been dropped."

So.

I was at the last 2 classes. teusday we talked of the canadian identity and what it means to us, and yesterday he told us in detailed monotone the story of the fight between Britians Hood battleship and Germanies Bizmark& Prinz Eugen battle ships. I remember it in detail.

So, I call Mr LAcey.(ss teacher) and I say politely but firmly, "I was wondering why you marked me absent for your last 2 ss classes. Because the school tracked my mother down, and told her that I didn’t go to your last 2 classes. As a result, my mother has taken away pretty much all my priviliges, ad now I’m grounded.
I remember clearly those 2 classes."Then I tell him in detail what happened with the bizmark, and why we as canadians are “proud of our nations physical beauty” and then, when I’m done, theres a long pause, and then he says simply
“well, I must have neglected to mark you as present. Maybe I didn’t see you.” Which is NOT true, because I went up to Mr. Lacey and apologized for being late, and I participated in the class discussions for both classes.

That ass!!!

He doesn’t even apologize, sdoesn’t even offer to make it better, so I ask him to talk to my godfather, and then I hang up on him. I was like, 2 seconds away from screaming at him1 How can you NEGLECT to mark me present? especially when you are holding your roll call sheet in your fucking hand when I go to apologize for being late!

SO, my mom called, Jay talked to her, told her it was the teachers fault, and she doesn’t want to talk to me, cuz shes “frustrated” at me for being late(surprise surprise; when does she EVER want to talk to me?)

It just pisses me off that he would just not care enough about his students to bother marking them present.

I’m guessing that for the class you missed, “ss” stands for “spelling skills.”

At any rate: maybe the teacher feels that if you cared enough about the class, you’d bother to arrive on time.

Grow up and start taking responsibility for your own actions. You admit that, twice in a row, “looking at a boy you like” was more important to you than being on time for your job (class). How, exactly, is this your instructor’s fault?

Be where you are supposed to be, WHEN you are supposed to be there, and you won’t have these problems. If you find that so hard now, just wait until you get out into the real world.

Well, just be on time next time-that’s your own fault.

However…not letting someone READ???

That’s just sick. But you can read school books, right?

Um, presumably she’s pissed because her teacher told her mother a falsehood.

The next time you’re 20 seconds late for something, I want you to look in the nearest reflective surface and say “Yup, I’m a hypocrite”. Strolling in 5 minutes late? Fine, you have a point. 20 seconds? That’s nothing that any rational human would worry about.

“What do you mean you’ve stopped selling breakfast?!?”

Punctuality is over-rated any way.

I meant to post that earlier, but… whatever.

Without wishing to sound somewhat skeptical about the time-frame you are suggesting M8B, I think the point is that if you are NOT there for ‘roll-call’ you are marked as absent for the whole lesson. Even though your SS teacher might have been holding the roll in his hand at the time, as far as I remember from my own school days, unless you are present when your name is called, it is assumed you are ABSENT regardless of whether you turn up sometime during the class or not.

It works the same way in the working world too for many jobs. Unless you sign on, on or before your appointed starting time, you are generally docked for an hour, EVEN IF YOU ARE ONLY 20 SECONDS LATE.

But on second thoughts, why do I get the feeling there is a bit more to this than meets the eye?

magic8ball, in real life, my little brother lost a job because he showed up a few minutes late several times. He was in his 30’s. True, he usually stayed even later, and he did good quality efficient work, but the person who busted him was a nitpicker whoc cared more about details than quality. My family’s response was not, “Oh, how terrible”, nor was his. He found a better job, and was happy to be away from that environment.

I’ve worked in manufacturing plants where if you clock in even one minute late, you are docked a full 15 minutes pay, regardless of what delayed you, and we can get some rather nasty winter mornings around here.

You now know that if you’re not in that classroom the second class starts you will be marked absent. As a student, you don’t have the option of quitting, so all you can do is decide whether you’re willing to accept the consequences of being late. You’ve been taught a lesson, whether you like it or not. Look at it this way – at least it didn’t cost you money you need for food, rent, or gas. Other people aren’t as lucky.

I went to high school at a fairly large, spread out campus and never had a problem getting to class on time, unless I was wasting time doing something stupid. Most teachers would cut you some slack if you walked in a few seconds after the bell, but 20 seconds late was VERY late, as most school give you a reasonable amount of time to grab your books for the next class and get into that class. If you’re going to stare at your latest crush, do it at lunch or something. Classes are limited to the time between the bells, and walking in late disrupts the class that has probably already started (As if there aren’t enough distractions to deal with in school anyway.).

**Monty ** A little respect for our younger posters, please.

Magic8ball has her hands full, trust me. Most of us here know her aunt, and know what the kiddo is going through - so let her be, m’kay?

Arriving a few seconds late is no crime, especially if the student was present for all the important material in class. While it’s true that it’s not something one should condone, it’s still not a crime. The teacher himself admitted that he should have marked her as present!

Magic8ball I’m puzzled about one thing - I can understand why a parent would ground a kid and take away some fun things (TV, Computer, whatever…) but… READING? In a province where litteracy is a struggle? The mind boggles.

Hang in there, kiddo.

I DO hope you are being sarcastic Elenfair. After going through similar bullshit in another thread that M8B started, this sort of pandering is becoming cliched.

Fucking stop it with the defenses. Either Magic8ball is old and wise enough to post here and accept all the responses, or she is not. I am so sick of all the excuses and the vitriol that is directed at those of us who do NOT know anything about her background. This is ‘cliquedom’ at its finest. And it is just not fucking-well on, OK?

Unfortunately, what this means is, if you’re late, don’t bother showing up at all. I mean, if you’re going to get shit for “missing” class you may as well actually miss the damn thing, right?

This is the problem with all zero tolerance type rules. A minor infraction is punished the same as a major infraction, so why bother keeping them minor?

I don’t know if magic8ball received a warning from the teacher or not regarding tardiness, but this type of infraction merits a warning or two before you just mark someone absent.

Well Said!

Uh… now I almost feel bad for being 2 hours late for work today

What am I missing? Who is her aunt?

“Your mother says you can’t go on the puter, watch tv, or read.”- Emphasis added.

What kind of parent stops a child from reading, even in punishment? It’s no wonder you can’t communicate properly, seeing as intellect is so highly prized by your family. And, no, their stupidity doesn’t absolve you of your own responsibility. Get to class. Learn something.

The reading thing is stupid. However, do be on time.

I had a teacher in high school that made you sit out in the hall if you were even one second later than the last bell. I had to do a make up test because he made me sit out in the hall when I was late on a test day. (My locker had been stuck).

If you have a LEGIT excuse, you should have a late pass. (Gym was one, although one of our gym teachers was notorious for keeping people late and refusing to give passes). I would sometimes go to the nurse and say I had a headache, just to get a late pass.

Whatever. But that’s how some teachers are, and you weren’t there for roll call. And you were MARKED as absent. That’s how things work, unfortunately.

Your parents’ no reading punishment, however, is wrong.

Opal, Ginger of the North is her aunt.

Okay? I think magic sounds like a good kid. And I have some advice for her-remember, not EVERYTHING that happens to you when you’re young is a crisis, even though it often feels like one. You’re still young, so it may seem like it’s the end of the world. You seem like a bright young lady, you just need some perspective. It’ll be okay.

Monty, my spelling skills aren’t so great. SS would mean “social studies.”
