Subdividing GQ?

Would it be possible/plausible/helpful to subdivide GQ into different categories? For instance, there could be Trivia/Facts, Technical, Legal, Real Life (e.g. “How do I…?” type questions), and All (allowing all GQ threads to be viewed… like currently done).

This would give questions more screen time and thus a better chance of receiving the attention and quality answers needed.

I think this has been asked before and they basically said they didn’t want to bother with child forums.

And long may they stay of that mind. The eclectic nature of GQ is a large part of its charm.

There are already enough people who can’t seem to understand that their thread asking for opinions belongs in IMHO rather than GQ (which is a fairly clear distinction) and you want to make the difference between the various forums even more subtle?

What subforum would questions about pan-fried semen go in?

GQAPFS. Or Cafe Society, if it’s a recipe.

Does that mean that questions about feeding semen to your fish have a separate forum as well: GQAFSTYF

 I love you guys.

And I think ultrafilter et. al. get it: The SDMB is nothing without the corner cases that resist subdivision into strongly topic-based fora. GQ, IMHO, GD, The Pit: All of them are form-based, where any topic can be discussed as long as it fits the form of that forum. Café Society and ATMB are special cases, because they do dictate a content. (This, incidentally, is why I favor merging IMHO and MPSIMS: I think the distinction in form between the topics in those fora is small to nonexistent. Basically, I don’t think polls really need their own space.)

While we’re at it, can we subdivide GD so all that military, political, religious and paranormal threads get exiled together in a freezing little gulag of their own?

I thought that GD was that gulag…

Gulag? Isn’t that sound you hear when the drain cleaner finally dissolves that hair plug allowing the sink to drain?

it’d be a meta-galug
