What’s up with the Hunley? They were going to begin removing silt Monday through an existing tear in the hull. No word on any of the sites, and the lab cam isn’t up yet.
The plan is to drill out rivets on alternating panels to get inside.
Here ya go:
I’m really curious about what they’re going to find. The Civil War historian James I. Robertson happened to be down in Charleston when hurricane Hugo hit (he referreed a college football game which was so muddy they lost the football in the mud–twice), and he was of the opinion that the harbor was so churned up that the Hunley must have suffered greatly.
That does not now appear to be the case.
Thanks! Where did you find that? I thought Webferret the ultimate search engine.
Well, the AP search engine at http://www.washingtonpost.com is pretty cool, but for casting a large net, http://www.newsindex.com is a (sometimes) remarkably efficient place to check.
News Index scored me at least ten articles from the past few days, and it is usually ordered fairly accurately by date and time–I think the fellow who started the site has been sneaking some of http://www.google.com 's excellent code into his own search engine. He has to rely on his hundreds of news sources he taps into to keep the particular files he searches current, however, so it can get a little annoying searching for current events on the same subject for a year and having the same busted link pop up every single time. Now that Clinton’s outa there, the guy has really toned down his rabid conservatism, too, which is less annoying.
Also, for rooting out far-away local news items, AJR Newslink is pretty dang good. I think the site is http://www.newslink.org, but I’m having trouble connecting with them right now.
