I am one more lost post away from pitting this bug.
When I preview a thread and use the Submit Message button on the bottom of the preview, I get an error message “Invalid Thread Specified” and my post is LOST!
If you go Back, IE6 tells you that the posted data is lost and you must refresh even to get the message composition page.
This makes me very upset. I hate repeating a post, and in some forums, if you don’t make a timely post, there’s no point in posting.
Furthermore, what happened to the reply text box at the bottoms of the threads? Those made it rather easy to reply, instead of waiting for the hamsters to present you with a box to type in, which can take up to 5 minutes on some days.
I’ve done several searches over the months since the VB system was upgraded, and have never found a mention of this “Invalid Thread” bug… but then, the search function appears broken too. “Specified” is apparently too big a word for the hamsters.
The “Quick Reply” option is a system “hack” that has not yet been replaced on the board.
I note that we are not on the most current update of the vB software; I will ask the techs to see if they plan to upgrade any time soon, as any modification done to the system gets wiped out in a software update.
What you are describing is not a vB problem anyway; once again, this is a server issue. When the server is overburdened, it drops tasks. It’s unfortunate that it does this and I’m sorry that it happened to you, but at times of peak demand, this is the reality. I suggest that you save a copy of what you do . . . and try posting when it’s not so crazed.

The “Invalid Thread Specified” error has only happend to me a couple of times, but I’ve made it a habit to “Copy” everything I’ve written in a text box before I hit “Submit” or “Reply” (and often while I’m in the middle of typing a long post).
This is useful if I get the mentioned error, or if I find that the server is down for maintenance by the time I’m ready to post, or if Internet Explorer crashes on me. (I’ll paste and save what I copied as a text file on my computer, then post it later.) The only way I’d usually lose the copied information is if my computer crashes.
Anyhoo…
