Just wondering if anyone has used a subscription clothes service and if it is something you’d recommend. I hate shopping for clothes and avoid it. Also, is there a company that is recommended?
I tried StitchFix a few years ago. The clothes were good, but long-term it was more expensive than I was willing to pay. I was frustrated that, despite asking for my price range at the beginning, five of the six items they sent me were above it. So at least a few years ago, StitchFix had 5 price ranges you could select, but the bottom two were basically ignored.
If you are happy with the prices in the middle tier or above, it’s a cool service.
I did Stitch Fix for a couple of years and liked it, at least way more than I liked shopping. If I bought something, I could also go online and buy the same item again, in a different color.
One thing I didn’t like about them was that they rarely sent me any natural fabric clothing (if you live in Florida and wear a polyester blouse, you will be sorry).
After I had built up my wardrobe some, I started feeling that I wanted more specific things, so I’d be better off shopping for myself. Also, I read a thread here about how the returned clothes were disposed of. I’d always wondered just what the logistics of the system were; and I’m still not clear what they do with the returns. At any rate, I didn’t want to contribute to the problem, so I stopped.
However, I did get a lot of good things from them. I’m wearing some Stitch Fix stuff right now.
I did StitchFix once (one box) but quickly realized I have a weirdly-shaped body, and zero fashion sense, so I had NO idea whether or not the clothes they sent actually looked good on me. Basically the experience was not personal enough.
I ended up springing for a personal stylist, which was expensive, but now I have a whole wardrobe of business clothes that I know look good on me.
I’ve been using Stitch Fix for a couple of years now and I like it. I hate clothes shopping in stores, so it’s a big win for me. It’s pushed me to try some styles I might not otherwise have gone for and invigorated my wardrobe a bit. I’m wearing an entire Stitch Fix-provided ensemble right now.
It’s not perfect, though. I’ve had some items that turned out not to be very durable. There is, perhaps, not enough variety in the brands they carry, so I end up with items that are sometimes too similar to what I already have. It’s certainly not cheap, though I would say overall I get decent value for my money.
But I am still doing it and still glad of it. I’ve decreased shipments now to 3x/year and that’s enough to keep things fresh and rotate out worn things. And PM me if you want a discount code to get started
My wife has been using Stitch Fix for about 3 years and she loves it. I like the styles she’s been wearing. She tried to get me to start but I haven’t. Yet.
She’s gotten her sister and mother to do it and they seem happy with it.
About receiving polyester clothes while living in hot and muggy climes, I know you can give them feedback on how you like / dislike what they send. I’d think you could tell them that. Problem solved.
I did let them know, but they didn’t seem to get it.
