Subtle songs about things that go bump in the night

“My Vampire” by the Soho Dolls and “Werewolves of London” by Warren Zevon are obvious songs about vampires and werewolves. What I’m looking for are more songs like “Closer” by Kings of Leon: the word “vampire” is never mentioned, but if you read the lyrics, it’s clear that it is indeed about a vampire.

Can you think of other songs that never mention vampires, werewolves, ghosts, witches, zombies and so on, but are about them? Which lyrics in the song make the case?
And to get it out of the way, **not “Possum Kingdom” by the Toadies **- band members say it’s not about a vampire.

Another subtle vampire song: I Love The Night, by Blue Oyster Cult.

I’ve always said that Dido’s Here With Me is a about ghost. (the singer is the ghost)

*Wildfire *is frequently cited as a really creepy song. OH and I never knew till someone told me that My Name is Luka is about child abuse.
Molly Malone is a nice little songs that turns out to be about a ghost.

Sting’s “Moon Over Bourbon Street”.

There’s mention of stalking around the streets at night, being trapped into his current life, not casting a shadow, etc.

More in a SciFi than a monster vein Poor Boy by Split Enz is about a (really) long-distance romance with an alien girl. OK, not really all that subtle (the first line is “My love is alien”), but if you weren’t paying close attention to the lyrics, you might miss the meaning.

My love is alien
I picked her up by chance
She speaks to me
with ultra high frequency

I Ran by Flock of Seagulls similarly seems to be about alien romance (interrupted by a transport beam):

Reached out a hand to touch your face
You’re slowly disappearing from my view
Reached out my hand to try again
I’m floating in a beam of light with you

She’s Got a New Spell by Billy Bragg, if you aren’t paying attention, is a girlfriend-issues song, but the spell part of the title turns out to be literal:

One minute she says
she’s gone to get the cat in
The next thing I know
she’s mumbling in Latin

(The link is to a live performance. The studio version is better, but not available on YouTube.)

I never really figured out whether the last verse of Metallica’s *Wherever I May Roam *was supposed to be taken literally (i.e. the whole song was really about a ghost) or figuratively (i.e. “even after I die, I’ll still do what I damn well please”).

Metallica’s ‘Sandman’ isn’t too subtl but things certainly go bump in the night.
