Succession on HBO

That’s the entire premise of the show and is all of our speculation. Leading contenders are Tom and Gerri.

(Tom and Jerry…heh)

ha, Tom or Gerri are both good choices for CEO.

I do think the premise is more about control (ownership) of the company, though. Will the deal go through or not (Who will succeed Logan). In this Greg firing scenario, it’s Mattson. If not Mattson, then Kendall is the most likely at this point. Kendall seems to have Roman under his wing and I’d guess that’s enough shares.

So just thinking this through. If Shiv is the “American CEO”, that means she sold all(?) her shares to Mattson to make the deal go through. So while it’s a cool job, she, or whomever, is just there as an employee at the boards whim. If it’s Kendall, then the deal did not go through, he retains a ton of ownership in the company and will also likely run the company.

Because our dad didn’t give us billions of dollars?

None of the Roy kids are billionaires because they’re hardcore serious business people.

We (may) love them, but they are not serious people.

I enjoy the lines about democracy… “You’ve only had democracy for fifty years. Less than Botswana. Counting black people…” or something to that effect.

BTW, for anyone who watches this show via an app, you might want to update the app before Sunday’s finale; HBO Max recently rebranded and on some devices, like my iPhone, I needed to download the MAX app to replace the existing HBO Max app.

I had to update my smart tv to the new ap. It took around fifteen minutes to set it up. If you need to do anything, you’ll get an alert when you try to watch something on the existing one.

I’m kind of hoping that Tom ends up on top at Waystar, having tried to be polite and having been dumped on by the Roy sibs for so many years, and that he fires them all after an epic rant.

Very interesting interview: How composer Nicholas Britell created the sound of 'Succession' : NPR.

My best line of the night was how Logan got his mausoleum in a bidding war with Stalin and Liberace.

Last episode tonight. My predictions:

  1. There will be a flash forward scene. It’s how we find out more about Shiv’s baby. And Shiv/Tom resolution.

  2. Mencken wins outright.

  3. Willa displays a few Marcia-esque tendencies.

  4. Mattson wins. Shiv uses her money to buy out Pierce. Roman self-destructs. Kendall becomes more like his father, telling his kids (at least once) to “fuck off!”

  5. Tom is the American CEO.

If they do some hokey shit like end the show right before the Board vote is announced, I apologize in advance for the cursing you will assuredly hear…

I think Jimenez wins and we find out right away maybe even with a small flash forward. This will all be about the fallout over the wrong call and the screwing up of the deal.

I’m traveling today so i promised my wife I’d wait until i get home on Wednesday to watch it with her. I hope my will is strong and that i don’t stumble across some spoilery headlines before then.

Checking out of this thread in 3…2…

Yea, I think starting right after the election is confirmed, or some other event is wrapped up in one scene, is a pretty probable way to deal with a big event and not take up half the run time.

Ooooof.

Damn. So close.

I think Shiv preferred a shitty marriage to no marriage. Framing the choice like that is kinda fucked up.

I suppose the show demonstrates that money does not buy happiness, because the Roy kids (Roman and Kendall in particular) are so fucked up and so unhappy. I thought Kendall was going to jump off the railing into the river at the end.

(And BTW, who was the board member in the wheelchair?)

That was Sandy - I think it’s confusing because his daughter is also named Sandy. He was a normal , healthy person originally then had a devastating illness. I thought the finale was pretty good- would have been great if they had given Gerri more to do than one dirty limerick (though Roman’s face while he was watching it was hilarious).

Tom getting the job reminds me of the old saw about the key to success - knowing what to kiss, whose to kiss, and when to kiss it. Tom just avoided the last two by kissing everyone’s at any given opportunity.

I’m not sure I understand why Ewan voted along with the boys. He knows they’re soulless idiots.

Ewen thinks that Mattson is just as soulless and the greater of the two evils.

Worth four seasons just for that almost-last shot of Tom and Shiv holding hands in the car, with so much being processed behind their expressionless faces.

Fantastic acting to the end. One of the less sweary scripts but the scenes at the mother’s house were just priceless.
