Earlier today I had no problems logging into FB using Google. Tonight I get a banner saying that I am using a browser that is not supported, and that it was switching me to a “simple view”, which is just annoying, on top of the new stupid layout. Anyone else having this issue, or am I just ‘special’?
What do you mean, “logging into FB using Google”? Do you mean using the Chrome browser? What device, operating system, and/or version are you using?
(FWIW, Facebook on Chrome on my Win10 desktop looks normal to me.)
Looks like other people are complaining about Facebook and Chrome

And, now I notice that Chrome is telling me that an update (for Chrome) is available, so it seems I’m not using the most recent version of that. Which may be why I’m not having any issues.
Don’t know if it’s related, but I just read that university students with new Chromebooks are having trouble connecting to the server, so there may be some buggy code.
Clear your cookies and try again.
Doesn’t work. Wiped out 100% of browsing data, cache, cookies, history, autofill, the lot and as soon as I go to facebook.com it’s prompting me to log in–on the mobile version, with a banner flag that says “Unsupported browser.” This has got to be a Faceplant thing, because it does the same thing on multiple browsers and different operating systems.
I had to disable the FB Purity extension. Worked fine after.
My problem there is that I find Faceplant equally unusable in mobile format on a desktop and the way it is without FB Purity so regardless I’m off Faceplant until something gets fixed. I simply WILL NOT use FB with all that clutter, advertising and pointless shit all over it.
ublock origin (best ad-blocker IMHO) keep FB pretty clean, even without FB Purity. Plus, it makes Youtube adfree.
uBlock does NOT address the massive amounts of bullshit clutter inherent in Facebook–my timeline is one center column with NOTHING on either side and many types of posts are completely blocked and that’s a job only FB Purity can handle.
There’s a thread in the Pit about Facebook, where I told about this same thing happening to me. I re-booted a couple of times, and then removed FB Purity, and it was back to normal. However, I was able to re-install FB Purity, and everything is now as it was before. I didn’t update Chrome.
For me, its the opposite. I hate Chrome, but most days I have to use it for somethig. When it is on, I get all the alerts and ringtones audibles for activity on my wife’s account, even when not logged on.
Reading that and looking into it a bit more, it seems there is an option in Facebook Purity that allows the user to go back to the old Facebook design. Such an option would likely lie to Facebook about what browser you are using, forcing it to serve you the older version of the website. But if they no longer support that older browser, then it will stop working altogether.
Unfortunately, it seems that FBP did not build a fallback into their code that would disable the option automatically, so you’ll have to do it yourself. Simply go to Facebook, then click on the FBP button in your toolbar or addons menu, and then disable the checkbox on top that says “Switch back to old Facebook design?”
