Suga, from BTS, suspected of DUI while performing national service

Breaking news from Korea Times.

Suga of K-pop supergroup BTS was questioned for allegedly driving an electric scooter under the influence, police said Wednesday.

“I feel heavy hearted and sorry for disappointing you,” the rapper said on K-pop fan community platform Weverse.

“Although no one was injured and no property was damaged, I take full responsibility for my actions, which cannot be excused. I sincerely apologize to everyone.”

He was booked and questioned at the Yongsan Police Station on charges of violating the Road Traffic Act.

And the fallout for the Military Manpower Agency’s response:

The military manpower agency said Thursday it will strengthen legal compliance education for social service agents after BTS member Suga’s drunk-driving incident on an electric scooter earlier this week.

On Tuesday night, the 31-year-old, who is currently serving his mandatory military service as a social agent, was booked and questioned by police after he fell off an electric scooter under the influence of alcohol in central Seoul.

Suga has since apologized for the incident, in which no one was injured.

The Military Manpower Administration overseeing social service personnel said the BTS member had driven under the influence of alcohol after work hours, and he will be punished according to the Road Traffic Act.

I’m very much against drinking and driving, but I almost feel bad for the guy since (imo) K-pop fans are the most toxic and judgmental fans on the planet. He’ll be hearing about this forever.

It’s certainly nonsense that he didn’t know a driver’s license is required to ride the scooter. But, yep, the “BTS ARMY” are a bit much.
