Sugar hangovers?

Am I imagining this? I swear that 24-36 hours after I’ve last eaten anything excessively sweet I get symptoms just like a hangover: headache, stiff neck, light sensitivity, throbbing temples, sick sweats, occasionally even mild fever and nausea. It finally goes away and then I’m fine, but if I eat sugar during this episode, it only gets worse. Or is this a sign of being pre-diabetic?

I am diabetic, and try to limit my waste carbs as much as possible [I will choose nice nutrient and fiber rich veggies and lower glycemic content fruits over pretty low fiber and null rice, pasta, sugar laden goodies and starchy stuff like legumes and potatoes]

I will have a piece of cake for the rare birthday party or wedding to keep in the spirit of the event and feel like i had been out binge drinking after I wake up [3 sugar glazed doughnuts will actually have me sound asleep in less than half an hour, and when i wake up 2 hours later I am in a world of hurt]

Question. After you have eaten sugar, brushed your teeth and gone to bed - in the morning do you have a sweet taste in your mouth?

My remedy [other than avoiding glucose loading my blood] is to take a couple of motrin and chug about a quart of the coldest icewater I can get with a tiny squeeze of lemon juice. Cuts the sweet taste in my mouth and adds water to my system so my kidneys can void out the excess glucose a bit better.
