So I ate way to much in the sweets department this holiday season. Unfortunately, I am no longer the Sweet Young Thing I once was, and my trousers and skirts are now a little too tight in the waist department.
So I’m trying to head back to my old habit of not many sweets at all. I’ve always been a meat-and-potatoes kind of girl, rather than desserts.
Today is day one of no sweets at all. Except for the lump of sugar in my tea this morning. I’m craving one of my christmas cookies so badly right now. And my head is killing me.
Is there such a thing as sugar withdrawal? Can it cause headaches? How long will I feel this way?
Yes. You might feel it for two days, depending on how strict your diet is (i.e., if you are a meat and POTATOES girl, the potatoes might give you enough carbs to offset it).
Drink a lot of water. A LOT. My first few days of a low-carb diet, I drank at least a gallon and a half.
Yeah, headaches are normal. You’re a sugar junky, and chem levels in your body have been tailored around a high sugar diet, driving insulin levels nuts, among other things.
Caffeine and some tylenol can help. I’d say 2-3 day adjustment is typical.
Make sure you are replacing the food with good eating habits, as that will help.
