That was our second choice for our wedding song.
Anniversary Song by Cowboy Junkies
One of my co-workers went bonkers over this song and used it in her wedding. Touching song with event-appopriate lyrics. Downside is the changes in tempo.
“Nameless One” by Young Love.
“The Way You Look Tonight” sung by Sinatra (this version is more upbeat and Big-Bandy, so easier to dance to).
Can’t go wrong with Sinatra. TWYLT is on the short list…
It was our First Dance and things have gone pretty good so far…
Nope, no joke here. I’m a theist, myself, so I have no objections whatsoever to the religious overtones of the song (“For wherever two or more of you are gathered in His name, there is love”). Just saying that if two hardcore atheists get married, they may jettison this as an idea for their wedding song because of the overtones.
It is a Catholic wedding, so religious overtones at the reception, real or perceived, are not an issue.
That’s just where we were coming from, too. It’s a song that joins divine and human love without being in-your-face about it, which is where we have been coming from.
Personally, I would not use Oysterband’s Blood Wedding (lyrics), but it might be fun if you did.
If you’re into country music, this is one of the most beautiful (and realistic) songs about marriage I know:
‘‘Something That We Do’’ by Clint Black. YouTube Link.
The Bangles- Eternal Flame
Phew. I thought you were suggesting that hardcore atheist *guests *might start rioting or something. :smack:
Your explanation on the other hand is completely sensible.
I try to think of myself as a sensible (well, more-or-less) person; good to know I’m not completely losing it!
Thanks for fixing that twicks. Should have realised that bulk cut’n’paste is not my friend. Apols.
Just don’t compare them to oranjs!
My other and I plan on using “In Spite of Ourselves” by John Prine. Not a big country fan in the least, but the song is pleasantly twangy, and perfectly describes our quirky-yet-functional relationship.
Also, you can dance to it like you’re in seventh grade.
…“Kiss to Build a Dream On” or “Dream a Little Dream” are also classic.
I can’t believe no one has mentioned True Companion by Marc Cohn. Lyrically it’s just about the most moving statement of enduring love that I’ve ever heard. Musically it’s beautiful as well. You may recognize Cohn’s name from “Walking in Memphis”.
First Day of my life. It’s by Bright eyes.
“No Matter What” by Boyzone. It’s what I want for my wedding. Now I have to work on the whole husband thing.
