Suggestion: DopeFest in the Netherlands?

Hallo everybody!

I was wondering – from time to time I see that dopers arrange get-togethers to spend a nice day having fun and all that sort of things.

I was wondering… How many of us live in the Netherlands (and perhaps also neighbouring regions)? Would it be possible to organize a get-together to get to know each other and have fun?

I know that Maastricht lives here, for sure. I do as well, obviously (although I’m not Dutch)… Anybody else?

Would it be possible to do something like that?

Waiting for your news!

I’ll be in Dunkirk the weekends of uhm… where’s the calendar… Sep 15/16, 29/30 and October 8/9 if I haven’t miscounted. There’s a coworker who may be interested in coming, I don’t know whether the rest plan on going home every weekend or not.

There was an epic dopefest in Amsterdam back in 2001, (search for Amsterdope) another is long overdue!

Well, I’m Dutch… but given some of the stuff I posted here, I’m not sure I’d be up for a dopefest: that whole anonymity thing is like a comfort blanket really;).

Amsterdam’s a nice easy flight from Aberdeen. I could be tempted.

Unfortunately my shift schedule is going to change soon, so I can’t give my availability.

OK, let’s bump this thread a bit  I still think it has potential!

Nava, I think that October 8/9 is a nice possibility for a Dopefest in the Netherlands.

I would like to ask Dutch dopers (or, well, whoever, really) for suggestions. My own suggestions:

I live in The Hague (Den Haag or, more poshly, 's Gravenhage for your average Dutch citizen) and there are a few things we can do around here (apart from meeting, having a nice lunch/dinner/whatever and hanging out). A “must”, in my opinion, is the Escher Museum (“Escher in het paleis”) where you can enjoy everything the master of impossible structures did.

Come on, let your voice be heard! Also, polar bear, no worries – we won’t judge you by your utterances here… Much

Maastricht, are you around? What is your opinion?

Oh, and if foreign dopers would be coming, The Hague is easily reachable by direct train from Schiphol Airport --and it has its own airport which a lot of low-cost companies use, the Rotterdam-The Hague airport in between the two cities.

This is my first, vague, sort-of amorphous suggestion. I’d appreciate your input, folks!

Damnit dude, don’t give me nerdgasms at work!

Then I won’t link to the luscious, gorgeous, fantastically detailed and high-quality prints that are impudically exhibited all over the place in all of their insane glory, huh?

Sounds like fun, and would love to see the Escher Museum.
count me in!

Except that the weekend is the 6th and 7th. I’m currently on shift both of those days.

:: waves ::

It’s a cool idea, but I don’t think I’ll join this time. I have tried to organize a Maastricht Dopefest twice, but both times it fizzled out.

However, I think a Dope Fest nearer Amsterdam will draw a bigger crowd. Amsterdam is a bigger name, internationally speaking. I hope it will be a success and I demand pictures in advance !

If you hold it inside Schipol early this Sunday, I can make it.

That would be… Problematic, I’m afraid :stuck_out_tongue:

@Quartz: Whoops, so it is :stuck_out_tongue: What about September 29-30, then? September 15-16 are out of the question because I am not going to be in the Netherlands.

@Maastricht: Aww… What a pity! But, well, if you change your mind (or you find the time), the RandStadt would be here waiting for you!

@willthekittensurvive?: The Escher Museum is very much worth checking out.

So, it seems that a hypothetical NL Dopefest would take place somewhere in or around The Hague, on the last weekend of September?

Input, guys and gals?

I’m in Holland (near Rotterdam) and I have plenty of time. Very interested. Most Dopers are good people.

OK then. Assuming, thus, that we have the following minimal setup:

-Dopefest in The Hague, NL
-During the weekend of September 29-30 (either 29 or 30, but most likely on saturday 29)
-Including at the very least a visit to the Escher Museum, lunch somewhere (or dinner) and general hanging out.

Who would be officially interested, so I can begin drafting a list?

Of course, I would be interested, so my name inaugurates the list: JoseB

Please respond and confirm whether you would be interested. Also, if you are interested and have any additional suggestions, let everybody know!

Let’s see if we can get this moving and off the ground!

Add me to the list, I can make most days in the weekend.

Sounds like a lot of fun!

I wouldn’t make arrangements which depend upon me, but I’m off shift those days, so if things are firmed up here quickly, I can tell my boss I’m pre-booked for those days when he decides to rework our shifts.

OK, with this, so far we have the following list:

Want to attend, definitely:

JoseB
willthekittensurvive?

Would be interested in attending:

Quartz

All right – Let’s get more people going!

My, is nobody else interested…?

Bumping the thread to give it a second chance! Let’s try to get this moving!

Interested people, post in this thread! Later on I will PM everybody who expressed interest to check up on them

The date would be SEPTEMBER 29 (saturday) in THE HAGUE.

Hope to hear from you all!

I’m there, now to figure out how to get from Dunkirk(ish) to The Hague… by train, of course, the devil’s in the details though.
