Suggestions for songs to put on a wedding CD

Brynda and I are going to be married in just over two weeks and we would like to make a couple of CDs to play at the wedding. We currently have about one CD worth of music but we need some more.

So I turn to you, People of the Dope.

Suggest some good songs for a romantic/wedding CD. It doesn’t matter if they are old or new, slow or fast or anything else. Just that they are love/romance related.

Rick

Congrats!

God Only Knows - Beach Boys (obvious)
100,000 Fireflies - The Magnetic Fields (obscure)

I just listened to mine yesterday. Here are the songs that I think are perfect for a wedding CD. I would be happy to burn you a copy of it, e-mail if you’re interested.

At Last - Etta James
Let’s Get It On - Marvin Gaye
Just the Two Of Us - Grover Washington, Jr.
You Send Me - Sam Cooke
Only You - The Platters
Love Me Tender - Elvis
Unforgettable - Nat King Cole
When A Man Loves A Woman - Percy Sledge
Endless Love - Lionel Richie and Diana Ross
Your Love Is King - Sade
Angel Eyes - Jeff Healy Band
Have I Told You Lately - Van Morrison
We Are In Love - Harry Connick Jr.
The Way You Look Tonight - Frank Sinatra
Hallelujah, I Just Love Her So - Ray Charles
It Had To Be You - Harry Connick Jr.
This Magic Moment - The Drifters
How Sweet It Is To Be Loved By You - Smokey Robinson
You’re My Best Friend - Queen
Love Me Do - The Beatles
My Girl - The Temptations
Sea of Love - Phil Phillips
Sex Machine - James Brown (we just HAD to sneak this one in!)

Yeah, congrats!

Here’s a few we had at our wedding (which means they are all oldies):

With You I’m Born Again (Ashford and Simpson)
Everlasting Love (You’ll Never be Denied)–U2 did a cover, but the most well-known version is by a singer whose name escapes me
Endless Love (Diana Ross/Lionel Ritchie)
That’s What I Like About You (The Ramones)–because you can’t be syrupy the entire night

The only one I can think of is “Everything I do, I do it for you” by Brian Adams (you know, the one from that Kevin Costner Robin Hood movie).

Uhhh…

Big Brother and the Holding Company’s Ball and Chain?

Here’s one from an unusual source: an acapella ballad by Sweet Honey in the Rock entitled “Sometime” on their Breaths CD and maybe on one or more of their compilation CDs as well.

"Can I have this dance " by Anne Murray

You needed me - Anne Murray
Time in a bottle - Jim Croce

Congratulations!

I submit Billy Bragg’s Fourteenth of February as the most romantic song I have ever heard.

Elton John, “The One”

“I’ll Be Your Mirror,” the Velvet Underground
“In My Life,” the Beatles
“The Book of Love,” Magnetic Fields
“Naive Melody (This Must Be the Place),” Talking Heads

“The Wedding Song” by Emerson, Lake, and Palmer is beautiful.

The Duck Dance! Everybody LOVES the Duck Dance!! I could hear it over and over again!

[sub]I’m kidding[/sub]

Oops, I apologize. Make that “The Wedding Song” by Noel Paul Stookey (of Peter, Paul, and Mary).

You Picked a Fine Time to leave me, Lucille

Hey, just keepin’ it real, man. There’s only so much saccharine any one wedding can take.

Come Away With Me - Norah Jones. Possibly the perfect slow dance song.

Answering Bell - Ryan Adams

I Ride In Your Slipstream - Richard Thompson

I’m The Man Who Loves You - Wilco

and just for the sake of weirdness:

Strangers - The Kinks

Her Eyes Are A Blue Million Miles - Captain Beefheart

and how could I forget:

Song For The Dumped - Ben Folds Five

Just kidding on the last one, I needed some contrast.

Are you sure that isn’t by Billy Preston & Syreeta?
Anyhoo,

Elton John–I Need You To Turn To
Minnie Ripperton–Loving You
The Flamingos–I Only Have Eyes For You

Congrats and best wishes!!!

Can’t Help Falling in Love - Elvis Presley
Love - Nat King Cole
Change the World - Eric Clapton
Every Breath You Take - Police
Strangers in the Night - Frank Sinatra
