Summer in Ocean City, Maryland (jobs, housing, sex on the beach?)

A friend and I are trying to figure out if there’s any way we can spend the summer in Ocean City, Maryland, working in low wage/labor jobs and living as cheaply as possible.

Are there any dopers that can tell me what the scene is like for working a summer job in Ocean City (or possibly Rehoboth, which is close by?) Are businesses “always looking” for reliable cheap labor in the summer? Most importantly, can we find any cheap rentals anywhere? (Obviously walking distance to beach is right out, given our price range.) We would also consider renting in nearby towns like Salisbury, Berlin, or Selbyville.

The real trick seems to be finding housing. All the rates we’ve uncovered so far in online searching are sky-high vacation type rentals. The ideal setup for us would be a one bedroom/one bathroom efficiency or garage apt for $800/mo or less. Also, is sex on the beach frowned upon?

Any and all insights, especially concerning real estate, are appreciated!

FYI, we’re recent college grads, both male, upstanding citizens, have no experience as waiters, and are currently 1000+ miles away (Iowa and Texas.) I have a car that can get us there. And we can probably scrape up $1000 or so for down payments/deposits but that’s about it.

I’ve got quite a few friends who do just that every summer - most of them go to Salisbury State U or College Park. Housing shouldn’t be too much of a problem, but plan on having housemates other than the two of you. At least if you plan on living off the main road like most everyone.

Jobs abound, everything from waiting table to working as bouncers at the clubs to lifeguarding to selling scopes (little key chain picture thingies) - and lots in between. A whole slew of college kids and recent grads live their over the summer, you won’t be alone.

Check their local newspapers for real estate stuff, or try searching SSU’s website - might be links off that. Should be very, very doable though.

And SSU girls are slammin, and horny - you won’t have trouble in that department.

Weirddave spent a summer at Ocean City, so I told him to come in here but he’s currently in the hold of D2. For the record, I read him the thread title, and he said “Yeah, you can get all of those things there.”

Keep off my lawn you rotten kids! [sub] Astro who lives directly behind SSU[/sub]

Just rent a townhouse and split it with 5-6 other people. Summer jobs are easy. EVERYWHERE in OC is walking distance to the beach, Sex on the ocean beach is not the best idea-too much traffic all night long, but you can find small beaches on the bayside with enough privacy. I used to get busy on the picnic table on the back deck of the townhouse I lived in. ( Jamestown Rd (117th st) just where the bay stops ). It didn’t seem to matter much that anyone could have seen us. shrug Hormones and beer, a wonderful combination.

Am I the only guy that realizes Ocean City, NJ is really where it’s at?

Oh, does the Jersey Shore have some competition, but none compare.

I’ll check out SSU’s site and see if I can find anything. Maybe we can find some already rented houses with college kids and some available space on the floor. Sounds like if we just show up in Ocean City and use a lot of hustle to land a job and housing we can make out OK.

Ocean City, New Jersey? :dubious:
