Super Bowl LX

Hey, as a GenXer, I also remember him as part of Menudo! (Either “Livin’ La Vida Loca” or “She Bangs” is likely the song you were thinking of. Possibly “She’s All I Ever Had,” which charted higher than “She Bangs,” but I don’t think is remembered as well.)

Spanish lyrics. Still very fast, but I could track some of it.

I’m hoping we’ll have a B-21 Raider flyover for a game in the not too far future.

It’s the Cracker Barrel problem, only they didn’t hamfist it.

He’s one of the biggest stars on the planet right now, and the NFL has been very good at keeping one eye on the future. They are ok with some discomfort on the part of the older fans if they can grow their younger audience. It’s not like the out of touch elders (and I include myself in that group) are going to stop watching football. It was a no-brainer pick for a halftime show.

I happen to agree that Bad Bunny isn’t my kind of music (actually, there isn’t much musical about it, objectively speaking).

But the performance did include specifically Puerto Rican cultural items, like the cuatro (small guitar), and a touch of reggaeton. And even sugar cane is only in certain parts of Latin America.

As for Ricky Martin, he really is musical. Longtime Dopers know I’ll use any excuse to trot out a mention of the harmonically and melodically sophisticated pop ballad “Volverás” (“You’ll Come Back”), which he co-wrote.

Got it. Rats, that would have helped me a lot.

In fact, the word interesting would have to set some sort of powerlifting record.

this morning while discussing the commercials, what i saw as a play on “ferris bueller’s day off”, someone else saw it as a i is emptying out offices and putting people out of work.

i did like the new ring commercial featuring for looking for lost pets.

The sentiment of finding pets, sure.

But right after that commercial, we all looked at each other and had the same thought - we’ve voluntarily turned all our homes into a mass surveillance system we don’t control. It was creepy as heck

i believe mr hemsworth’s alexa+ commercial touched on the creepy.

as soon as i walk out my door, i reckon i’m on camera. it does have good and bad points. at the very least it does give alibi proof.

Among a certain subset of people, this Super Bowl is probably considered one of the two best.

Super Bowl VII deserves a mention too. Dullsville, except for the Yepremian play.

Yes, indeed. I enjoyed every minute of it.

One thing I found bothersome about the ads, were the ones I appreciated most were from groups I generally find distasteful. 2 Jesus ads - 1 about appreciating nature rather than immersing oneself in tech, and another about being neighborly, and one from MAHA urging the eating of real food.

And I found the one about the toilets and urinals just super weird. Is your pee yellow? OK - drink more water. So - for the majority of folk who live in cities with decent tap water, why do you need some additive in your water?

Totally pedantic: B-1B bombers are not strategic. The Air Force considers “strategic” as nuclear capable or intended. The A model was strategic. There are extensive differences:
From Wiki AI - The B-1A and B-1B are variants of the Rockwell Lancer bomber, with the B-1A designed for high-altitude supersonic flight (Mach 2.2+) and the B-1B optimized for low-altitude, radar-evading penetration at high subsonic speeds (Mach 1.25), featuring reduced radar signature and larger payload capacity, shifting from speed to stealth and payload for modern warfare. Key differences include the B-1A’s variable engine intakes and crew escape capsule versus the B-1B’s fixed intakes, standard ejection seats, and significantly lower radar cross-section, making the B-1B a more survivable conventional bomber.

Not said is that the ability to arm and launch nuclear bomb/missiles is missing from the B-1Bs. There’s more equipment required for that than you would think.

Mach 1.25 is supersonic, isn’t it?

It was from the AI blurb. I know.

Patriots have the record for most Super Bowl wins (alongside Steelers) and also hold the standalone record for most Super Bowl defeats. It’s surreal that they’ve been to 10 Super Bowls in 24 years.

Agreed.

People need to understand, when you are a Seahawks fan, you see crazy stuff all the time. There is a meme that Seattle has never played a normal football game, and while that’s clearly an exaggeration, it seems more true than not. Every game something weird or crazy happens. And so many of them are nail-biting roller coasters.

A game where Seattle clearly dominated from the very start, where pretty early on you can feel comfortable, because the defense wasn’t giving anything up, and the offense was moving the ball pretty easily (even if they couldn’t punch it in to the end zone for a long time), that’s a novelty. Especially considering the previous game where Seattle had to conquer the Rams in the NFC Championship, the team that gave them more trouble than any other, and the Rams were able to be in that game all the way to the end, having a comfortable SB win was such a relief. I was still nervous at least until it got to 19-0, but it wasn’t the massively stressful game I’m used to.

So yeah, what’s boring to most people was fun for me and also very refreshing. And seeing so many guys on defense doing well that I’ve been watching for so long was fun. It’s not fun if you don’t know who they are, sure. Dang though, watching Uchenna get that TD was the highlight of the game for me. I was so happy for him.

Oh, and seeing K9 just break through guys was awesome, I’m just bummed that his TD got called back for holding. Darn it Sundell!

That was my second year as a Washington fan and I continue to suppress memories of it.

The Patriots scored to make it 19-7, then forced Seattle to punt. So the Pats had possession, and had just proven that they could move the ball and score a touchdown; I think the game was still somewhat in doubt at that point.

I wonder if this game will contribute to the go-for-it-on-fourth-down mentality that’s so in vogue these days. Five times the Seahawks “settled” for field goals, in a game they wound up winning by 16 points.
