The rules are simple. Pick one competitor in each match-up - the one with the higher total goes on to the next round and the losers get dumped in the dollar bin. You can base your vote on any criteria you like. You can pass on a match-up if you choose. Anyone is eligible to play in any or all rounds but you can only vote once in each round. The voting for this round will end at 11:00 pm (EST) on Wednesday.
Wonder Woman is one of my four favorites from this group, but falls victim to the bracketing. As a kid, I played with a toy Batmobile that would probably now be worth several hundred dollars had I possessed the foresight to leave it mint in box.
Diana Prince would have beaten either of these two. Wolverine strikes me as overrated, while J’onn languishes in undeserved obscurity.
Spider-Man (16-4)
Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) (13-7)
If for nothing else, Spidey wins for that memorable Kirsten Dunst scene in the 2002 film…
Superman (15-5)
Hellboy (10-9-1)
Gotta strike a blow for truth, justice, and the American way! Plus I grew up around Cleveland, where Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster met and began their collaboration.
An interresting side-note: On the old-time radio station I listen to, they’ve been playing the Superman radio serial. In said early incarnation, Superman fought for ‘Truth and Justice’. Nothing is said about ‘The American Way’. In addition to this, I find it pretty remarkable that their big thrust with their message to kids is anti-racism, anti-bigorty, and inclusiveness. Their ‘Hey gang!’ message of the week is almost always a ‘don’t look down on other people because they have a different race, religion, or place of birth, and snub bullies who do that very thing’ one. I’m rather impressed, given the time period.
Martian Manhunter (Jonn J’onzz) (10-9-1)
Raw power carried this fight.
Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) (13-7)
Raw power carried this fight.
Superman (15-5)
Raw power carried this fight, cause Hellboy has a gun, but no magical attacks.
I’m not going back through all the threads to research this, but maybe someone could answer for me real quick.
Didn’t ArizonaTeach originally set it up so that a dark horse or two could make it to the finals (wasn’t that the ’ . . . with a twist’ part)? These are 8 of the most popular superheroes ever.
Superman (15-5)
I feel odd voting for Batman because I’ve read so few of his comics directly. But I’ve seen the movies and TV shows and he has such a presence that he’s appeared and/or influenced many of the titles that I have read.
That was the original idea, yes. This has just been a standard X Madness series. I’m game to try again with ArizonaTeach’s version when time and house stress relent enough to make it feasible. The seeding is already done for it, and we can compare the outcomes.
I am not particularly happy with how this one is playing out, anyway.
