Thanks, guys. I figured there must have been some reason that made (comic-book) sense.
Any true Tick fan knows his weakness is straws.
Then why is a straw the official MOAV implement of menace?
Captain Ultra, yeah.
Well the current explanation for the yellow weakness is along the PC vein. In the sense that there is a creature (Paralex) who is basicly THE fear parasiste housed in the Central battery. For a while the gardians never told the GL’s about this and just said there was a yello weakness (they really are pricks BTW.)
You see basicly each emotion has a corasponding color on the visibile light spectrum. Fear-Yellow and willpower-Green. Since the embodyment of fear was locked inside the thing that powered all the Lantern’s ring, they were powerles sagainst it.
At least till Kyle came along, someone who was not what a typical GL was up untill that point: HE Was not a man with out fear. SInce he knew fear, and overcame it he could in fact use his ring on yellow.
Jump foward to now and it means that Yes GL’s can use their Rings on YELlow but only if they remember fear. Hince it’s a rookie problem as they are still learning how to work with the rings, and understandibile considering ALL Gl’s for thousands of years coudn’t figgue that one out.
damn it dude! Why do you have to answer the question faster and better then I did? :smack:
It works both ways:
In Tick #whatever, a fellow diner patron insists The Tick isn’t really a tick: “Ticks suck blood – do you suck blood?” “I’ve got a straw right here, buddy!” Diner patron shuts up, but keeps breaking in with skeptical comments, which The Tick silences with a threatening “fwip” of his straw. Hence the offical MOAV etc. (this is all from memory, BTW).
Unfortunately, Tick keeps the straw in his mouth for the entire issue, breathing through it, and eventually passes out from lack of oxygen. Thus, the straw is also his weakness.
Not that hard; put him under stress, or wait until he’s under stress, and arrange for him to be exposed to alchohol; Obidiah Stane did just that.
Definitely Captain Ultra; Ultraman was one of those Japanese man-in-a-rubber-suit series; way back when I was a kid.
My impression was that Parallax somehow made the Guardians forget about him. They themselves thought the yellow weakness was either a necessary flaw or a deliberate check on the Lanterns’ power. If not, you’d think Ganthet would have mentioned something earlier…
