Supermarket items you miss

Count Chocula, Franken Berry, and, to a lesser extent, Boo Berry. No to be found anywhere. I find it hard to believe they quit making them. Several months ago my local Giant had a big display of them on sale for $2 each; it was the first time I had seen them in years. I bought one of each, but didn’t bother to stock up on any more than that because I figured hey, they’re back, I can get them any time now! Wrong. They haven’t been there (or anywhere) since. :frowning:

Also, barbecue flavored Doritos. I could’ve happily lived on those things exclusively for the rest of my life.

And this is particular to my Giant, but their bakery used to make cookie sandwiches - two big 'ol sugar cookies with about six inches of frosting between them, rolled in sprinkles. That was my weekly treat, but they seem to have quit making them.

Oh, yeah! The chocolate ones were the best. They were kinda dry, but that was part of their charm. I never ate them for breakfast, but a 2-pack of them and an ice cold glass of milk was a favorite after-school snack.

Wow–has it been that long? I still eat the other ones, but I don’t like them as much. For that matter, I miss the old Trix (when they were all the same shape)–the new ones just aren’t as good.

They didn’t quit–at least not Count Chocula. I see it at stores around here (San Jose, CA) all the time. I’m not sure about the other two–I never liked them, so I haven’t looked for them. But I think I might have seen Franken Berry as well.

I miss eating Dr. Oetkers frozen pizza, especially mushroom funghi. I can’t get them here in the United States, only in Canada. I used to eat these a couple of times a week when I lived at home. I have checked everywhere, not even the company website says they offer them in the US. Such a shame.

Large Marge, Blow Pops and Sugar Daddy pops appear regularly in my local markets. At Albertson’s, especially, are many candies that seem to be difficult to find elsewhere. My roommate and I almost bought an Abba Zabba there once, because neither of us had heard of them before.

My stepson used to be crazy about Kellogg’s “Kenmei Rice Bran”, which seems to have vanished without a trace about ten years ago.

And for some reason, I am completely unable to find oat bran muffin mix anywhere anymore. Everyone seems to have jumped on the “no-carb” bandwagon and forgotten that oat bran is actually supposed to be healthy for you. (Curses, Dr Atkins!)

Thanks for the Blow Pop sightings; we don’t have an Albertson’s but we do have a Wal-mart. I’ll check it out.

How about MVP chewing gum as well as Gator gum?

With some trepidation I post that the Meijer store here in Lexington sells Jello pudding pops. My brother bought some just a week ago. I don’t eat them myself.

For kid food, I too really really miss the Sunshine brand Raisin Biscuits.

The other kid thing I miss is Pillsbury(?) Date Nut Bars. It was a dessert mix in a box that made up into a crumbly base crust, a layer of sweet date goop, and a crumbly topping mixture which was baked for 15-20 minutes. Very tasty, not too sweet. I haven’t seen it since the 1970s. But I keep looking.
In a more recent vein, I miss salad dressing made without sugar or sweeteners. Remember when simple vinaigrettes or Italian didn’t have any sugar or sugar-substitute in it? It wasn’t that long ago; just before the “lite” craze hit and they found they could remove expensive oil, substitute cheap high fructose corn sweetener and it’d suddenly be a lite product and sell like mad even though it had more calories & triggered diabetes in 1/2 the population.
On another note, I also miss the $1.50/lb Top Sirloin & 50 cent/half-gallon milk like I had in college.

What sort of black hole of Northern VA do you live in? I can find Count Chocula and the other cereal monsters at my local Food Lion, and my local Super Wal-Mart. I shop in the northernmost of northern Virginia.

I’ll pass on the barbecue Doritoes, but I’d pay good money for the plain ones. Haven’t seen those since the 1970s. :frowning:

Except here.

Look for Boo Berry Halloween-time. That is the only time they appear in stores where I am.

For mine, I put in another vote for Choco-diles. The bomb diggity, yo.

I also miss : Mountain Berry Punch Koolaid, Campbell’s Pepper Pot Soup, and Tofifay in all its nougatty goodness.

Nobody I know has every even heard of Tofifay. I used to get them in NY but last I saw them was at least 9 years ago. Out here in the South I had to learn the parlance of all these different snack treats. Moo Pies? Never heard of 'em.

I think it was called the **“Boston Marathon Chew” **
I’m not sure if I got the name right, but anyway it was a looong’ candybar with a measuring stick on the wrapper that would take even the most skilled of kids hours to finish because it was so damn chewy.

Come to think of it; This candy bar must of been a parents wet dream. Just give your yammering little brat one of these and shut them up for hours. I remember I got tons of these as a young’n.

HEY WAIT A MINUTE! I’m SO calling Mom!!

I love Toffifay too! Luckily for you, it’s available here at Wal-Mart (look by all the Russell Stovers boxes of candy", and also at Walgreens.

(If you can’t find it available at either of those, try googling with its proper name: “Toffifee”)

They had Tofifay at my uni’s bookstore (Southeastern Michigan). I’ll be honest and say I can’t see the love for them, since I tried them and found them nasty. Not to be a downer on your post, though! But I’m letting you know they still make them!

I got a bag of plain Doritos on top of my fridge right now. Hubby likes them with salsa, but I prefer Tostitos. Got 'em at Safeway.

Actually, it’s spelled “Toffifay.” Try googling that and you’ll get lots of hits.

But who remembers the theme song:

“Toffifay, it’s too good for kids!
Toffifay, it’s made for grownups…”

On behalf of my grandmother, Sweetheart Soap . She’s missed it for several years now.

Minute Maid diet orange soda Nobody makes a good diet orange now.

Forgot who made it, but there was a great oven helper type of mix where you add water to the mix, put chicken pieces on one side of your pan and stuffing on the other and you wound up with oven roasted chicken pieces, gravy, and stuffing all of which were pretty good.

Black Cow candies. Sort of a cross between a SloPoke and a Milk Dud.

Actually, it’s not (warning: stupid site will resize your browser); chaoticdonkey was correct. Getting a lot of Google hits on the other spelling just means that a lot of people spell it wrong.
