Supernatural 2.03

Anyone else following this. I just got caught up, looked for a thread and didn’t find one.

So far, I’m liking this season better. Production values are better and this latest episode truly introduced shades of grey, which I like. The MotW of last season got pretty clichéed at times.

And Amber Benson was beautiful.

Was she the female vampire? 'Cause I kept going back and forth on whether that was her or not- there were times when the voice gave it away, but I sort of thought she was looking awfully rode-hard-put-up-wet; ever since she lost weight she’s looked… wrong.

Enjoyed the episode. I like when a show starts to question its own premise – in this case, the idea that all supernatural creatures are evil and it’s the right thing to destroy them. For the vampire hunter they met, all moral choices are easy because he sees everything in black and white.

If this weren’t the Cafe Society, it would be so easy to make a political joke at this point.

So, did Dean actually fix the Impala, or did they get a new old one? The original Impala didn’t look fixable to me. It looked like the other hunter was driving an El Camino; do all these people drive vintage muscle cars? When you’re fighting evil ghosts and whatnot, does a ton of Detroit Iron have some kind of talismanic power? (Though if I recall, their Dad was driving a modern SUV, which seems like a more practical choice for that kind of job.)

When my girlfriend and I were watching the show, I said to her, “I wish this were a real job. My brother Tom and I could totally do this.”

Someone has mentioned on Livejournal here that Supernatural is a cunning plan to end lesbianism.

I entirely agree.

Yup, the female vamp was Amber Benson.

And the old Chevy, what’s up with the inside rear view mirror always being gone when it’s a medium shot from the front of the boys. It shows up again when the POV is from the rear of the car.

The guy playing Dean could almost make me switch sides. He’s damn good looking.

He’s damn beautiful. Heh, “BEHOLD, the power of the Ackles! Able to turn straight men gay and gay women straight!”

Anyway. I’m totally loving this season so far, and it’s all because of the character development. I love seeing Sam growing up, being strong and patient with his brother, and still hanging onto the open-heartedness and drive that he showed last season. I love (in a good way) seeing Dean unravel after the death of his father and leader, and start to question himself and his upbringing and his direction. Dean is such a wonderfully layered character, and Jensen Ackles does such a fabulous job of fleshing out his complexities and sensitivity and ferocity. He’s great at communicating so much with just a look. And Jared Padalecki has improved tremendously this season.

But, man, this past episode was bleak. When Dean punched Sam, Sam’s (non)response damn near killed me – he just took it without reproach or even a flinch…it was like he knew exactly why Dean had done that, and why he needed to do that, and Sam just let him go.

I love Sam. I love Dean. I love this show.

I didn’t like the punch, but maybe it fit with the point of this episode – Dean learning that the answer won’t always be hit it or kill it.

Did anyone else think that Gordon might react badly to the sunrise? I half expected him to turn to dust or burn up. I’m glad they didn’t do that though.

Sam needs a haircut. Dean doesn’t need anything.

I thought that might have been Amber Benson…I still think the show is too dark, though. No matter how I adjust the color on the TV, this one show is so damn dark.

You know what the end of the episode needed? One of these. Well, it did up until Dean knocked him over. 2-3 days is a long time!
