Suppose Texas Succeeds in Seceding?

Good question. It is the 2nd best type of BBQ in the country. But since they will no longer be part of the country, I guess 2nd will have to go to Eastern North Carolina.

Nobody would get irony any more.

:notes: Goodbye Texas it’s been nice
Hope you find your paradise
Tried to see your point of view
Hope your dreams will all come true :notes:

Texas BBQ is worth appropriating.

Not a single place in Lockhart made the Top 10 list this year. Oh, Brave New World, that has such wonders in it.

I think the US would just say “no we don’t acknowledge your secession, we’re going to continue maintaining our military bases and anyone who impedes that is committing treason and is going to be arrested if not just killed”. And Abbott won’t be able to find anyone capable of running a military that would agree to commit an act of war against a nuclear power.

Here I’m saying the US is now a nuclear power as opposed to during the civil war when there was at least some chance separatists could come out of a civil war alive.

. . . as quoted by none other than Abbott.

(Oh waitaminnit – it was quoted by Edwin Abbott in Flatland.)

As a person born and raised in Austin and lived his whole life in Texas, I am more than a bit disappointed to see what my fellow Americans think of us. Greg Abbott, Ted Cruz, and a whole bunch of others are not the best of us. Texas is filled with millions of wonderful, loyal, patriotic Americans.

Remember, Texas is not really a red state. It is a non-voting state. Abbott and our lege seem determined to keep it that way. Unfortunately, the Texas Democratic Party (of which I have been an active member) seems utterly unable to figure out what to do about it.

I am skeptical of any real Texas independence movement. Texans can’t be bothered to vote, let alone take up arms against the United States.

I am more than a bit disappointed that that is the takeaway you have chosen here. No one has said anything disparaging about the actual people of Texas in general.

No, but they are the ones in power, who would make such a decision as comes about in the OP’s hypothetical situation.

Well, that’s just fighting the hypothetical.

The Texans who do vote, the Republicans, would absolutely love a chance to do exactly that. You know, right after they took up arms against you and the rest of the Democrats in the state who didn’t manage to flee.

The problem is that all those millions of “wonderful, loyal, patriotic Americans” seem powerless to stop the powerful crazies.

Rinse and repeat for every other US state.

When this hit the news a couple days ago, my wife asked me what I thought about it, and it immediately occurred to me that they should call themselves New Free Texas, aka NFT, as a reflection of their total detachment from reality.

NFT offers sanctuary to trump and his cronies. He naturally becomes their 1st president. There is a crisis at the border when an army of MAGA hatted freaks want to join him in exile.

“Gilead”.

That may have been true about not being a red state, but I’d wager that Biden et al have managed to flip enough of y’all to render that not true.

  1. Is Cruz dead in this scenario? Some New Yorker being the first President / El Presidente? Please.

  2. Crisis? Naw dawg. 40 acres and a mule. Fine print: “Mulemustbereturneduponyourdesertheatdeath.”

edit: Heh. I forgot Cruz is Canadian. We have a real crisis here!

I would love for Texas to secede. Then we could declare war on that benighted shithole and carpet bomb every square inch of the place.

More Texans voted for Joe Biden in 2020 than New Yorkers.

You rezzed a three-month old thread just to express this? Do you feel better?

considering he lives most of his life there probably lol

Yeah, people really don’t grasp how purple most of the country is, on a state-by-state basis.

As someone who lives in Georgia I feel the same way. I get why people are frustrated with the state was a whole, I share some of that same sentiment. But I would point out that we were a red-state writeoff for years, until we weren’t, and a lot of that was because of structural suppression of the political minority.

(Of course this could snap back due to backlash, and it likely will, but… we’re trying and we need everyone’s support.)

shitting on red states = shitting on blue cities, a.k.a your allies. Doesn’t help anyone except Republicans.
