The thing is that normal people don’t say, “I deserve the Nobel Peace Prize.” Sure they might think that but most are smart enough not to say it out loud. And even if one thinks they deserves it, there are ways to promote their name in a more subtle way. Get others to say that you deserve it while you remain modestly quiet about the whole thing. Get a newspaper to write editorials on your behalf. But Trump has no filter. (When he wanted Jerome Powell to lower interest rates, he did so by saying out loud multiple times. I saw something that pointed out that this was counterproductive; if the Fed lowered interest rates, it would look like they were surrendering their independence by doing his bidding, and if they didn’t, he continued his ranting about it.)
National Public Radio had an interview the other day with someone who is connected to the Nobel Committee. He was very diplomatic in his answers, but they basically boiled down to a few points. First, it’s too late for this year. Second, the committee is much more likely to award based on a body of work or even a liftetime’s work, not a single accomplishment. Trump’s general attitude of hostility, hate, and aggression would work against him for this point. Third (somewhat emphasizing the second), the committee probably regrets to a degree giving it to Obama who really hadn’t done much up to that point but were sort of a sentimental favorite and selection reflecting hope more than done deeds, and the committee would not want, at least for a while, to keep those standards low enough to honor Trump any time in the near future. Fourth, the committee takes a dim view of people who actively campaign for the prize, and nobody has campaigned for it as much as Trump. Throughout his comments, it seemed pretty clear that he felt the majority of the committee sees Trump as the boorish lout every non-MAGA understands him to be. It just ain’t gonna happen.
Normal people don’t say most of the things Trump says. He has the mind of a five-year-old, and the same lack of awareness.
If Knowing Everything About Jazz was a category, he would have been a lock for TDWR (Talent Deserving Wider Recognition) from Downbeat Magazine.
And top prize the following year.
CNN was just showing Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner speaking in Tel Aviv. It would be hilarious if they received the Peace Prize next year (not that they deserve it) rather than Donald Trump. So many things would get thrown at the wall.

Der_Trihs:The only people who can actually make peace in the Middle East happen, are the people who live there.
So, no; neither he nor any other President would deserve a Nobel Prize for such an occurrence
It should be noted that, in accordance with what Der_Trihs stated above, Carter did not get his Nobel Peace Prize for brokering the Camp David accords; rather, Sadat and Begin got those prizes. Perhaps someone should break this to the President, and explain to him (using small words) that he would need another 22 years of “…untiring effort to find peaceful solutions to international conflicts, to advance democracy and human rights, and to promote economic and social development” to be in the same ballpark as Carter.
 Gatopescado:
 Gatopescado:No. Fuck That Guy.
The only acceptable response to anyone suggesting Trump should receive even a modicum of credit for doing something good. Fuck him. No prize for being the most conniving fascist of our time.
But his discovery of living backwards was the biggest discovery ever, And at the age of -8, too!
If Trump invents an anti-gravity metal, should he receive the Nobel Prize in Chemistry?

That is what i had assumed. Trump has so much aggression and hate in his lifetime portfolio that i can’t imagine him being considered.
From discriminating against black renters in the 70s to family separation and putting kids in cages his first term, to the current cluster **** that includes saber rattling at Canada and Greenland, as well as numerous civil rights assaults, i can’t see how he could possibly be considered.

Oh, I don’t know that any of that is enough to disqualify him. There have been Nobel Peace Prize winners who make Trump look like a peacenik.
I can guess without clicking…
UTA: i guessed wrong.
Yes and if he proves the Riemann hypothesis, he should get a Field’s medal (yes I know the committee has chosen to restrict it to people under 40, which is why Wiles didn’t get it).

Huh, I assumed you’d have guessed right when I saw your post pre-edit, it’s not like it’s that big of a surprise!
 Hari_Seldon:
 Hari_Seldon:broker a real peace
I assume the definition of “real” peace will be left up to the reader.
“Sure, he gave us peace, but its not a ‘real’ peace.”
Trump did at least one good thing: Operation Warp Speed. Characteristically he disowns it now.
And if he runs the 100 meters in 9.6 at the LA Olympics, he should get the gold medal.
No. No he shouldn’t. He should be disqualified. Call it unsportsmanlike behavior (which wikipedia tells me has led to medals being stripped, even when the behavior was unrelated to the competition itself). To repeat: fuck that guy.
Eh, i think mine was worse.

puzzlegal:Eh, i think mine was worse
Really? I don’t see it at all.
I’d put Kissinger as more deserving of a peace prize than Trump, because at least he had a coherent foreign policy vision whereas Trump just lights international agreements on fire for shits and giggles.
Meanwhile, Trump is more deserving of a noble peace prize than Arafat is, along with almost anyone else on the planet.
