Suppose that you’re in Birmingham until Tuesday. Suppose that you’re staying at a hotel downtown and don’t have a car. Suppose that you’re at a conference during the daytime. Suppose that Sunday evening, you’ll be calling your husband named, let’s suppose, “Daniel,” and saying, “So, what did they say would be a fun thing to do in Birmingham when you asked on the Straight Dope”?
What would you expect to hear as an answer?
Daniel
You’d drink your blue friends? Reminds me of the story about the two mind flayers talking, while one of them is gnawing on a deep gnome. The other one says, “You gonna finish that, or are you just smurf nibblin?”
HAW HAW HAW geek humor I love it
Anyway, yes, I mean Birmingham, AL. My wife’s a museum fan, if that helps; also loves good food, especially good inexpensive food.
Our daughter just moved to Birmingham for the year.
There’s a Jazz Museum, it was closed when we were there, but has a good rep.
Vulcan Park is kinda cool for a while.
There’s a Civil Rights museum that’s very impressive.
Or, if there’s a football game in town, go to that. First read RAMMER JAMMER YELLOW HAMMER, of course.
If your daughter has encountered those who greet people with “Roll Tide”, she has fallen into bad company. Such people are generally mentally deficient, prone to making absurd assumptions (they’ve got a good football team) and they don’t bathe often either.
Fortunately they are but a small portion of Alabama’s population, centered around Birmingham and Tusca-loser, and are easily avoided.
There is probably still time for her, but you must act at once! Return to Alabama and find some people who greet each other with “War Eagle”. Those will be Auburn fans, characterized by having a high degree of intelligence, acceptable personal hygiene and most of them own cars that actually run.
For your daughter’s sake, go back and get her away from any who say “Roll Tide” before she gets cooties from them.
Down, boy… We all know that the proper greeting in Alabama is “Who’re ya rootin’ for?” Allegiance to the wrong team in the wrong crowd could get you hurt.
DeVena, born and raised in Birmingham
Whose brother actually named his first born after Bear Bryant
