I’d be more than happy to attend a Dopefest heah in the great state of Alabama. I’m in Montgomery. I know of three others that live in the state as well: bwk, T140, and Simetra. Don’t know their locations, though.

Wow! I haven’t had time to hang around the board much lately, and I’m astonished (and pleased!) to see that there are other posters here from Alabama. Since I’ve not been here much lately, Osip is the only poster that I’m really familiar with - I’ll have to look the rest of you up and get to know you better :).
B’ham and Montgomery are the most central locations, we have Dopers that live in both locations and could possibly suggest good meeting places, and I’m about an hour from B’ham and an hour and a half from Montgomery, which is convenient for me!
On the other hand, we apparently have two Dopers living in Huntsville, and I have family there also, so have a good excuse to make the drive . . .
Let’s hear it for Bama Dopefest 2000! (Or 2001, if we have to delay it that long!)
Not a bad Idea Coosa. I think Birmingham is the more centrally located and is a straight shot interstate wise that we might lure a Atlanta or other GA doper.
Unfortunately I do not know Birmingham at all so someone else would have to figure out a place.

The Ham sounds like a good central location, and some place in Five Points would be cool. We could always have 2, you know, if people want to visit Huntsville.

I don’t know if I would be able to make it to Birmingham–schedule is pretty full for a while–but I would be up for a Huntsville meeting for sure. Unfortunatly, Huntsville is a little short on the sort of cool hip places the other dopers have been meeting at. We have what, three restrants in town that are not national chains? The only place that springs to mind is the Jazz Factory, but it can be a little too noisy for actual conversation. Someone would have to go early and lay clain to the couches!
My girlfriend just got a job with Sirsi. She’s going to be working with you, and I mean working with you. She starts on January 15. Crap, you may have even seen her walking around (or met her, for all I know) during her interview last week! From what she’s told me, she’ll be working with Unix systems.

Feynn, that’s ok. Alabama is one of those places where a guy can introduce you to his wife and his sister, but you’ll only see one other person standing next to him.
And don’t crack on family reunions. They happen to be excellent places to get dates.
Manda JO, I don’t know if that’s good or bad to know someone who knows me! And you’re right, I wouldn’t even know where to meet. We’ll have to think about that. Mulling over my schedule, and being that it’s November already, I’m wondering if any meeting might not be better off until Jan or Feb. And IIRC, ellykat is due to birth an ellykitten around April.

Is your girlfriend a librarian or a tech person? Either one would technically work with Unix systems. Makes a difference. Like if she’s subterranean with us cool tech people, or on the first floor with the…the…well, the librarians.
