Hey the 13th is coming up and I have been a bit out of the loop in regards if anything was established on a Doper get together on the 13th in Birmingham Al.

if not, now that the holidays is over can we all bump heads together and figure out a day and place?

We said something about it, but it just kinda got forgotten. Ogre and I both were all about it and we’re both down in Montgomery, and I think it was ellykat who was gonna try to put something together, find us a place to meet, up in Birmingham.
If anyone’s really interested, I think it’d be cool, even if there are only like 6 of us.
Just thought I’d give this a friendly bump, just to see if there were any other Alabama, or maybe even Georgia or Mississippi dopers who wanted to get together. 
I sure wish Saint Zero and I could come over, but it’s a bit short notice and we have WAY too many bills to pay this check.
We will, however, be in Mobile at the end of February/beginning of March…

I headed down to Montgomery for a class at Maxwell AFB. I did get to see East. Blvd, American Pie, the Brew Pub, etc. I like Montgomery much more than Minot, ND. . .

Montgomery “is” better than Minot tho’. Of course, so is Chernoble. (sp?)

Hey Febuary or such sounds good to be. This weekend would have been bad due to a dead car in the driveway. Yeah Febuary or early March. That would give everyone a bit of notice to try and work something out. WIll have to go to work and figure out what weekends I am free in Febuary and March. Will post more tonight.

Just giving this a friendly bump to see if anyone else was interested in getting together in late February/early March. It looks like there just might be more than six of us, so…
Used to live in Inverness and then in Helena up until Aug. I liked B’ham a lot. Just thought that I’d write in and give a couple of suggestions for a Dopefest.
Dreamland: On 15th. It’s awful good. The one in Tuscaloosa is better (so I hear) but this is closer. I’ve not been able to find ribs that good anywhere.
Surin West: On the Southside. Great Thai food and the best Sushi I’ve had to date. And some of the best creme brulee I’ve ever tasted. You wouldn’t think that of a Thai restaurant.
La Paz: It’s not in Mt. Brook per se, but near there. Great Mexican food.
All of these places could accomodate larger groups. And, except for Dreamland, they can accommodate even vegetarian tastes.
Damn, why couldn’t you have held this while I was still in town? Feeling a bit nostalgic for the old haunts.
If we do a DopeFest in Huntsville, I know I definitely could not come. If there was one in Birmingham, I probably wouldn’t be able to go, because my parents won’t let me drive to Birmingham yet.
It’s too bad we can’t do one in Tuscaloosa. I know I could get there (and yes, the Dreamland’s there IS better).
Well, we don’t “have” to do it in Birmingham. That was just the suggestion because it seemed like the most central location. Anyone who has any good ideas, send me an email and tell me when you’re available in late Feb/early Mar. I’ll see what I can work out and post it here.
BTW- Some BBQ does sound really good. Nothing beats seeing your fellow dopers covered in sauce.
I didn’t realize there were so many other AL dopers!! Count me in for a Dopefest. . . especially if it’s at Surin West. Yummmm!
Christ, Simetra, we Atlantans appreciate the thought, but we can’t even get people to come out when it’s in the same friggen city. I wouldn’t count on any help from Georgia.
I’m game for BBQ anytime. March might be better than Feb, and coming from Jackson, Crimson-Tide Land is a shorter drive than the Big Ham.
I just checked MapQuest and Tuscaloosa really isn’t too far from B-Ham, so I think maybe we could count that in? Just because I’d like to see as many people as I could there. Plus, March seems like it might be better for everybody.
Anyways, just send me your info, “How far you’ll drive.” “Where you want to go.” ((Dreamland BBQ seems to be the consensus, but we’re all probably open for anything.)) “What days in early March are available to you.” ((Let’s try for a weekend)), and I’ll try to coordinate everything.
Mouthbreather, just thought I’d extend the invitation. It’s always open when/if I get some plans finalized, so if you find yourself with nothing to do that weekend…
