This morning I’ve been treated to the epic butthurt of some of my co-workers, complete with one guy going on a rant about the government that ended with him comparing the trans-fat ban to the legalization of abortion.
Not only divorce. I expect to see child custody, visitation, wills, and adoption cases from gay clients now.
Unfortunately, today’s ruling is only another step in the path. My state has a statute on the books that says gay couples cannot adopt children. That’s going to take legislation or litigation to fix, and in this state, probably litigation all the way to SCOTUS. Divorce statutes will need to be rewritten, custody law is going to have to change–especially “morality” considerations, likewise visitation law, etc.
Since most of the people who would whine about it are on the hard right, remind them that both Heller and McDonald were 5-4 cases.
Well they managed to define slightly more than half of the major candidates as “every candidate.” Apparently the editors didn’t want to take off their shoes to count.
The gays are taking over! The gays are taking over!
Can I get a “yeeee-hawww”?? Proud to be an Atlantan today.
My very conservative nephew has already thrown the polygamy and/or pets strawman on one of my celebratory posts. I am trying very hard to ignore it.
And just when Atlanta was dealing with all those damn zombies.
Seriously though, that’s really cool to see in a deep fried Southern state; yet Atlanta being a huge urban area, it’s not too surprising.
The US Military just issued a statement that they will allow SSM in all military bases in all 50 states.
I assume this means that mil chaplains are starting to hold SSM ceremonies as of noonish today.
That disappoints me too.
I LOVE watching lesbians make out
Is this thread also the place to point and laugh at Scalia’s deranged dissent (PALASDD)?
Two PALASDD articles from HuffPo:
Antonin Scalia Dissent In Marriage Equality Case Is Even More Unhinged Than You’d Think
Scalia Said To Ask The Nearest Hippie About Marriage, So We Did. (Yeah, they really found and interviewed an aging hippie.)
Plenty more similar articles to be found just for the googling.
My question: If the Obamacare decision was “jiggery-pokery”, does that make the SSM decision “buggery-pokery”?
Here’s that cute little song from Garfunkel and Oates that captures both the simplicity and complexity of this rather well.
Seeing all those exploded heads and splattered brains, there was clearly a massive cataclysm of collateral damage.
If I were any more overjoyed, I’m pretty sure I’d be shooting rainbow lasers from my eyes and breathing clouds of bittersweet schadenfreude incense.
Great news and about time.
Conservatives shouldn’t be upset. It’s a partnership agreement and absent strong public interest the government should have limited interference in agreements between consenting adults.
Shooting rainbow lasers from your eyes would be awesome. Just sayin’.
Srsly! I live about 3 hours away from SF. But I’m tempted to make the drive tomorrow just to see it. I imagine it will be quite some massive street party and celebration! (I am remembering the spectacle we saw in the streets of Berkeley the day Nixon quit.)
I’m not sure you understand what a huge thing this is for those of us who have been denied the same right you’ve always taken for granted. I’ve waited 52 years for the day to come when I could legally marry the woman I love. You may have had to wait only long enough for the county clerk’s office to open the next morning. This is huge.
Plus, remember that every time you “like” a public post on Facebook (that is, one that isn’t marked for “Friends Only”) it shows up on your newsfeed. You can “like” a public recipe and your friends are going to know it.
I swear, every time I read another headline or watch another news story, I start crying again. What an amazing, incredible day!
