Yep, it has now happened to me. As of Sept. 14, my current employer has informed me that due to budget cutbacks, there will no longer be a need for my services.
Actually, it’s not that bad. I’ve been wanting to leave for some time, and I only have eight months to fill until I get into a Foreign Service class. Went to an interview yesterday, and that went well.
The whole process just irks me, though. I’ve been here for two years, and since my business group blew through their budget and development allotment too early, I’m the one who has to go out and find a new job?
Oh well, just wanted to vent. I’ll probably be employed soon, anyhow. Anybody need a tech support wiz/Renaissance Man/sommelier-vintner? I’ve had my shots and have a smooth and glossy coat.
Ouch…good luck, False_God.
My downsizing experience was really painful. Didn’t see it coming, although I should have. The guy who should’ve been booted hadn’t been there as long, wasn’t as valuable, but made less money than me…and it came down to money of course. It always does.
Hope things work out for you…have you thought of starting your own wine connosieur’s website? I understand there’s a lot of money to be made on the internet…

Wow, Sept. 14 is turning out to be a bad day for workers. That’s the day I get downsized, too. Mine wasn’t a surprise, though - I saw it coming more than a year ago and have been developing a contingency plan, way before I got official notice. My whole department is down the tubes, actually pretty much everyone at the old company is. Still, sucks to be made redundant, although ‘being made redundant’ is a great phrase and one I use at every opportunity. You should try it; it might make you feel better. Anyway, my condolences, and good luck with the Foreign Service thing. That sounds really neat.
