Surprises coming for voters for the Leopards-Eating-Faces Party

Like Marge said when Apu was in danger of deportation, “The only crime he committed was to violate US law!”

What these people don’t get is that the Trump administration sees ANY person here without proper documention as a criminal. A dangerous criminal. There’s no “well, aside from being here without permission I’m a law-abiding person.” Nope, there’s no grey area. Either you’re legal or you’re a criminal and need to be deported.

Hell, they’re treating people who have legal authorization to reside in country as criminals. No need to buy into their tattered fig leaf

Exactly, being undocumented is just an easy excuse. They’ll deport people just for the way they look.

Being here legally is barely any protection. Say the wrong thing (literally), and your visa or green card is revoked, and you’re gone.

If they really cared about the “undocumented” part, then the way to fix that is allow easy and vetted paths for temporary and permanent economic migration. Nobody will run on that platform though, because got to appease the racists.

Hell, I don’t consider myself safe: both paternal grandparents were immigrants (Ireland and Quebec), as was my maternal great-grandfather (Scotland). That’s one of the reasons I got a passport as well as an Enhanced* DL; still, if an ICE apparatchick decided he didn’t like the cut of my jib … buh-bye.

* As has been discussed elsewhere, a RealID that can also be used to cross the Canadian/Mexican borders by land or sea.

I need to renew my DL before next month. I’m not going to get a Real ID. I have a passport, and Real ID seems to want too much information.

Even after he kept telling his maiden and the snake story.

Hell, they’re treating American citizens as though they have no authorization to be in the country.

I thought you needed a passport these days to do that? Maybe 15 years ago my GF and I were going to Mexico for a vacation and were denied boarding at the airport because we did not have a passport (we were traveling in January and apparently the rules had changed that January 1). We went home, got our passports and traveled the next day but sucked because we lost a day.

This was before RealID was a thing though.

When I was younger a driver’s license was sufficient.

While I have a RealID now I would not even think of going to Mexico or Canada without a passport (even if it is possible to use a RealID for that travel…some quick Google searches suggest I need a passport but nothing I am willing to hang my hat on so, not sure).

Isn’t the passport requirement dependent on how far into Mexico you’re planning on traveling and on the mode of travel?

I’m not sure. I have seen some things to suggest different modes of travel may differ in document requirements which is why I didn’t want to hang my hat on any statement of fact. I mean, I suppose if you live in San Diego and want to go to Tijuana for the day maybe something less than a passport will suffice. I really do not know.

I would say it is probably just easiest to use a passport and not fiddle with the fine print. That’s just me though. YMMV

Hey, Trump has talked about deporting native-born citizens he doesn’t like. He really does want gulags, preferably located in foreign lands.

He already has gulags located in foreign lands. It’s up to two now, isn’t it, with a third coming on soon?

Flying to Canada or Mexico from the US does require a passport. An Enhanced DL or ID (available in MI, MN, NY, VT and WA) allows for border crossing by land or sea, but not air.

I have an enhanced license , a passport card and a passport - and I wouldn’t plan ahead to go to Mexico or Canada without a passport. The cards are handy if (for example), I’m in Rochester and decide to go to Niagara Falls for the day.

Nah, Trump managed to find a way to provide a path to citizenship will, not just make sure only the ‘good’ people get through, but will also personally benefit him.

America has deported a four year old American citizen who had cancer and we deported him without his cancer medicine, USA USA!

I was told that Democrats didn’t applaud loudly enough when a kid with cancer was paraded out during the SoTU. Why, it must be unpossible that he would have deported a different child citizen with cancer. I wonder what the difference between the two was…

Speaking of white supremacists, while Brown people are getting deported without any due process, we’re allowing white South Africans in as refugees. Weird.

One is white and male, the other is brown and female.

Whoa! Next, you’ll tell me that this president is a racist asshole. I simply cannot believe America would vote that way.

The thing about that Cuban woman is that I’m sure she looks down on, say, the Venezuelans and Ecuadorians, but to this administration, they’re all the same.
