Based on the “la-la-la I can’t hear you!” approach to weather and climate change in Florida I’m reasonably certain that the state does not have “sufficient evacuation plans” for anyone, much less Alligator Alcatraz
In Miami, where 70% of people are Hispanic, the deportation theatre is not going over well. Many expected the Trump administration to pick up gang members, but not cleaning ladies and Uber drivers. “Arbitrary measures to hunt down people who are complying with their immigration hearings” is “not what we voted for”, the co-founder of Latinas for Trump wrote on X in June.
No, in fact, that is exactly what you voted for. Trump and MAGA made it very clear what they were going to do. You just told pretty stories to yourself.
This one fits here because Bolton, while now being against Trump and did not vote for him in the last 2 elections (But he actually refused to vote for Biden or Harris), he still voted for the rest of the Republican ticket and remains a conservative Republican.
Well, Bolty; The Republicans that you voted in are not controlling Trump, so you got a big bite to your face. Bolton got Swatted for daring to speak against Trump.
Oh, man, I was just coming here to post about that! This one is delicious – Bolton probably agrees with everything the Republicans want to accomplish, and talk about a chicken hawk warmonger! But, he thinks Trump is a clown and isn’t afraid to say so, so now the justice department is going after him. Support a fascist party, get fucked.
I’ve often described Bolton as the smartest moron in the world. Sure, he sometimes does good analysis of world affairs, but he’s also all-in on most of the Republican nonsense of the last 20 years or so.
Did Bolton have a dog, and did the cops shoot it out of hand? Did the warrant originate from some guy in an interrogation room’s “just give me a name” at 3AM?
If not, then the RW elites still aren’t in the same predicament as the bottom 50%
I’ll give it a shot. Conservatives like Bolton and George Will, the smart but not especially mensch ones, believe in authoritarianism, but dress it up in Plato’s Philosopher King model. And Conservative demagogues like Trump don’t meet their standards.
Unfortunately this only reinforces their authoritarianism, because Trump’s powers and his abuse of it derives from the common boobs who put him up there. Certainly not them, the espousers of enlightened tyrants (and how they love themselves as they torture the logic of squaring that circle)
Sorry about that, I thought I had responded and clearly did not, then the whole thing got swept away by the next insane thing.
They don’t believe anything ought to happen. They don’t consider themselves responsible for what happens.
Some single mom in the inner city can’t afford food, well, that’s a you problem, not a me problem. You should have made better life decisions, and if I fix everything for everyone who makes bad life decisions, they won’t be incentivized to make good decisions. They’ll keep making bad decisions and rely on me for support.
Their answer is to cut off the tap. What happens then is the other person’s problem.
It used to be that Conservatives believed that progress, while inevitable should be slow, steady and well-thought out. It was better to move to slowly unlike liberals who move too quickly. Today we allow gay marriage and the liberal will want marriage to farm animals to be legal. Legalize marijuana and next week heroin use will be mandatory for 8 year-olds if liberals have their way.
But now Conservatism is wanting to reverse course. Make Racism Great Again. Make the most out-of-date Christian beliefs the law of the land. Question radical science like vaccines and the Globe Earth. The King (sorry, President) is ordained by divine-right and not only cannot be questioned but is immune from man-laws.
Yeah, it’s the dark side of the commonly expressed American ideal of “rugged individualism.” It’s very much baked into American culture, part and parcel of American exceptionalism. It also is a large part of why the United States has always been an overall somewhat center-right nation relative to Western Europe. That and the lingering aftereffects of American chattel slavery and the peculiar religious American-centric ‘Great Awakenings.’
Overall (there are exceptions) the conservative view of the poor can be summed up less as active hatred than just callous disinterest. Or minor charitable interest at best - i.e. church handouts in the forms of food or used clothing drawn from voluntary tithings is fine. More substantial aid in the form of financial support drawn from involuntary taxes largely is not.
