To be fair, garbled reasoning is the reason they became MAGA in the first place.
So, the contra-positive (or one of those logical thingys that I mostly only know the names of) to:
You can’t reason someone out of position they didn’t reason themselves into.
A statement I myself have used many times.
There are more stories like this about other parts of the country, but they’re behind pay/login walls.
Note: the representatives for these two areas, and for rural areas in general, voted in favor of the SNAP cuts.
Retired school bus driver Bonnie Newsome told NBC News she remains affectionate toward Trump but admitted he has disappointed her. Without the food pantry, she said, couldn’t survive.
Completely deluded.
But, but, but, … food pantries are Socialism!!
Surviving when poor is socialism. Unacceptable!
MAGA definition of Socialism = Things that help people that aren’t ME ME ME!
Yep. See this post in the other ginormous stupid MAGA thread.
Yeah in a nutshell that’s what the MAGA viewpoint on socialism all boils down to.
Along with no understanding of what the word means.
It’s the right kind of socialism - either church run (so often but not always with a side order of Jesus) or rich people assuaging their conscience in a tax deductible way
IME right wing people are OK with socialism strictly within their monkeysphere. Their imagination fails beyond that.
Conservatives are fine with lots of things that actually are socialism, as long as it isn’t called that. “Socialism,” “communism,” and even “liberal” are just four letter words they throw around to describe people and things they don’t like. Those terms just sound more statesman like in a speech than actual four letter words.
And in a way that keeps poor people hanging on from meal to meal while doing nothing to address the underlying causes of poverty. (And while I am a regular donor to the local food bank, I’d like to see a lot more attention given to getting people to a place in their lives where they no longer need the food bank.)
It probably does end up being cheaper in the long run to address the underlying causes.
But then some person might get some benefit some busybody doesn’t think they deserve, and where would we be as a society without moralizing scolds like that?
One day, I dream of some of those former-facers having enough self-reflection to listen to this song and embrace just a fraction of it’s emotion.
Hell, I just love the song anyway, but it plays in my mind every time I see a working class idjit realize he ruined his own life by chasing the Golden Fleecer.
One’s life is a small price to pay.
The cult demands sacrifice.
Hatred > Hunger.
Not sure how it relates? At all?
