What’s wrong with including a link to a survey in a GD thread about the topic of the GD thread? Sounds pretty arbitrary. I guess it’s true that my survey could cause the minds of everyone in GD to become infected with the more scientific notion of using anonymous surveys to more accurately gauge opinion and it could lead to the end of the universe and by extension this message board as we know it. Sounds pretty unlikely though.
Which forum would you prefer that I put it in? Are we allowed to discuss the topic in that forum? If not, GD seems fine.

If you want to use the board that way, you have to ask for permission.
There’s nothing scientific about doing a survey that way. We do have a polling function in certain forums here (IMHO, for example), but they’re for fun and not scientifically valid or anything.
The problem is you were using this site to drive traffic to another website. That’s almost never allowed here.
You can talk about The Matrix here. You can start a poll about The Matrix here. You just can’t say “Hey, everybody go to this other website and vote in my poll”.
